As part of the campaign, information camps were held in various towns, explaining the benefits of the PM Surya Ghar Free Electricity Scheme. Around 28 residents completed their online registration for solar plants during these sessions. Officials also guided attendees on uploading necessary documents including PAN card, Aadhaar card, bank passbook, and electricity bill to complete the application process.

The scheme targets the installation of rooftop solar power plants to provide households with pollution-free, cost-free, and reliable electricity, fostering energy self-sufficiency and reducing monthly expenses. Eligible households can receive subsidies of up to ₹1,08,000, depending on the plant’s capacity — ₹45,000 for 1 kW, ₹90,000 for 2 kW, and ₹1,08,000 for 3 kW. Beneficiaries can also finance 90% of the plant’s cost at 6% interest over a period of up to 10 years by paying just 10% upfront.
According to Rajnandgaon Circle Superintendent Engineer Shankeshwar Kanwar, the circle has so far received 4,889 applications from Rajnandgaon, 325 from Khairagarh, 193 from Dongargaon, 478 from Dongargarh, and 688 from Mohla, totalling 6,573. Of these, 499 applicants have already selected vendors, 6,547 have received approval, and 195 households have completed rooftop solar installation. Another 180 installations are underway, with 154 beneficiaries having already received government subsidies.

Beneficiaries Speak Out
Residents such as Sonkunwar Dhruv, Swati Yadav, Jyoti Shukla, Gangotri Ganveer, Ramkhilawan Netam, and Urmila Bai from villages including Meregaon, Metepaar, Sirarbhatta, Tolum, Hitkasa, and Muretitola, as well as Nilesh Jain from Dongargaon, reported that they learned about the scheme through newspapers, social media, news channels, and the Mor Bijli app. After applying online, their 2–5 kW solar plants were installed within a month, completely eliminating their electricity bills.
The PM Surya Ghar Free Electricity Scheme not only addresses energy shortages but also supports environmental sustainability. By encouraging the domestic generation of renewable power, the scheme helps reduce carbon emissions, creates local employment opportunities in installation and maintenance, and improves electricity access in rural areas — contributing to both economic and ecological benefits.
