Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray has stirred a political debate with sharp remarks questioning Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s upcoming visit to China. Speaking to reporters in Delhi, Thackeray demanded clarity on India’s foreign policy, particularly regarding the nation’s stance on strategic adversaries and allies. His comments come amid reports of a potential diplomatic engagement between India and China, even as tensions persist along the Line of Actual Control (LAC).

Thackeray expressed skepticism about the timing and intent of PM Modi’s China visit, stating, “First of all, he should clarify who our enemies are and who our friends are.” Highlighting China’s reported support for Pakistan, he questioned the government’s decision to engage with Beijing diplomatically. “It has come out openly that China is helping Pakistan. He started saying to boycott China. So why is he going to China now?” Thackeray asked, referring to earlier calls for reducing economic ties with China. He also raised concerns about India’s decision to resume cricketing ties with Pakistan, asking, “Why are we playing cricket with Pakistan?

”The former Maharashtra Chief Minister emphasized the need for robust leadership to navigate India’s complex international relations. “The country needs a strong government, a strong Prime Minister, Home Minister, Defence Minister, and Foreign Minister,” he asserted, criticizing the government’s handling of foreign policy and national security. Thackeray’s remarks reflect growing concerns within opposition circles about the Modi administration’s approach to India’s strategic challenges, particularly in light of ongoing border tensions with China and regional dynamics involving Pakistan.

Thackeray’s comments were made on the sidelines of his visit to Delhi, where he is expected to attend a crucial meeting of the INDIA alliance hosted by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. His critique also touched on the government’s broader diplomatic track record, noting that PM Modi has been “touring every inch of the world for the last 10 years” but questioning the tangible outcomes of these engagements.

The Shiv Sena (UBT) leader’s statements have sparked reactions across political spectrum. Supporters of the opposition view his remarks as a call for greater transparency and accountability in India’s foreign policy, while critics argue that diplomatic engagements with China are necessary to address bilateral issues and maintain regional stability. The government has not yet officially responded to Thackeray’s comments, but the issue is likely to fuel further discussions as the Prime Minister’s China visit approaches.

As India navigates its position on the global stage, Thackeray’s pointed questions underscore the need for a clear and consistent foreign policy framework, especially in dealing with complex relationships with neighboring countries.
