In a major step towards enhancing safety, the Press Club Housing Board Society in Rajnandgaon has passed a unanimous resolution to deploy security guards across the nearly completed Press Club Colony. This decision was one among seven key proposals ratified during the society’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) held on Tuesday at the Press Club premises.

Presided over by Society President Mithlesh Dewangan, the AGM reviewed and approved the annual report and financial statements for the year 2024–25. The proposed budget and program for 2025–26 were also discussed and accepted. Additionally, audit reports from the financial years 2018–19 to 2023–24 were presented and an auditor was appointed for the upcoming year.

Members were informed about the current progress and ongoing development works within the housing colony. A proposal for installing CCTV cameras within the colony premises was also approved with consensus.

In a significant development, the Society voted to remove journalist Manoj Chandel from the Director’s position. The motion, introduced by journalist Sanjay Singh Rajput with the permission of Press Club President Sachin Agrahari, referenced Chandel’s alleged involvement in illegal sand mining and a related shooting case in Mohad. In a vote conducted among the members, only 9 supported Chandel, while 39 voted for his expulsion. This follows a similar decision taken earlier by the Press Club to revoke his membership.

Speaking at the meeting, Press Club President Sachin Agrahari and Housing Board Vice President Virendra Bahadur Singh assured members that the remaining developmental work in the colony will be taken up with government authorities. They reiterated the collective commitment of all society members and journalists to complete the project successfully.
