In a major anti-narcotics operation, the Rajnandgaon Police and the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) jointly intercepted a large consignment of cannabis allegedly being transported from the Malkangiri/Koraput region of Odisha to Agra, Uttar Pradesh.
The joint team recovered 41.195 kilograms of cannabis from a Tata Yodha pickup vehicle (Registration No. CG 04 NS 8967). The seized contraband has an estimated value of ₹20,59,750. Including the pickup vehicle used in the alleged trafficking and an Oppo touchscreen mobile phone, the total value of the seized property stands at ₹28,65,750.
The operation was carried out under the direction of Superintendent of Police Ankita Sharma (IPS), with guidance from Additional Superintendent of Police Kirtan Rathore and supervision of City Superintendent of Police Vaishali Jain, as part of the district’s ongoing drive against narcotics trafficking. The operation was executed by a joint team of the Cyber Cell, Rajnandgaon, and Tumdibod Police Outpost.

According to police, on July 26, 2026, the NCB Raipur alerted the Tumdibod Police Outpost that a substantial quantity of cannabis was being transported from the Malkangiri/Koraput region of Odisha in a Tata Yodha pickup via the Rajnandgaon–Tumdibod route towards Agra, Uttar Pradesh.
Acting on the intelligence, senior officers were informed, following which a joint team of the NCB and police established a checkpoint near Gurudwara Chowk on the National Highway.
During the operation, the suspected pickup vehicle stopped nearly 300 metres before reaching the checkpoint after its occupants noticed the police presence. The two persons travelling in the vehicle reportedly took advantage of the darkness and fled the spot. Police immediately launched a search in the surrounding area, but neither suspect could be apprehended.
The abandoned pickup vehicle was subsequently searched in accordance with legal procedures. During the search, officers recovered 36 packets concealed behind and beneath the vehicle’s seats. Examination confirmed that the packets contained a total of 41.195 kilograms of cannabis. The contraband was sealed and seized as per prescribed procedures. An Oppo touchscreen mobile phone was also recovered from the vehicle.

Police have formally seized the cannabis, the pickup vehicle, and the mobile phone, with the total value of the seized property estimated at ₹28,65,750.
A case has been registered at Tumdibod Police Outpost under Crime No. 319/26 for offences under Section 20(b) of the NDPS Act, and further investigation is underway.
A joint team of the NCB Raipur and Rajnandgaon Police is continuing efforts to identify and apprehend the two absconding suspects. Investigators are also probing the source of the cannabis, the alleged trafficking network, the transportation route, and other persons connected to the case.
Police said the operation was made possible through the coordinated efforts of the Cyber Cell, Rajnandgaon, and the Tumdibod Police Outpost, adding that the district’s campaign against narcotics trafficking will continue.
