The government’s flagship Viksit Bharat–Giramji (Rural Employment Guarantee and Livelihood Mission) Scheme is bringing positive change to the lives of persons with disabilities in Rajnandgaon district by expanding employment opportunities and entrusting them with responsible roles that encourage self-reliance.

While beneficiaries earlier received 100 days of employment under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA), the VB-Giramji Scheme now provides 125 days of employment along with a daily wage of ₹300. The enhanced work period and higher wages have contributed to increased income and strengthened the confidence of beneficiaries.

Chandraprakash Sahu, a person with disabilities from Sundara village in Rajnandgaon development block, said he has been entrusted with the responsibility of serving as a Mate, supervising the work of 100 labourers under the VB-Giramji Scheme.

He described the assignment as a matter of pride, stating that while he previously received 100 days of employment under MGNREGA, the new scheme offers 125 days of work with a daily wage of ₹300, which is expected to further strengthen his family’s financial condition.

Mr. Sahu also said that during the visit of Rajnandgaon district’s Minister-in-Charge, Gajendra Yadav, he was honoured with a shawl, a coconut and a memento. He described the recognition as an unforgettable moment that boosted his confidence and inspired him to move forward with dignity in society.

Expressing gratitude to the State Government, he said the VB-Giramji Scheme provides persons with disabilities not only with employment but also with dignity and opportunities for self-reliance.

She stated that earlier she received 100 days of employment under MGNREGA at a daily wage of ₹261. Under the VB-Giramji Scheme, she now receives 125 days of employment with a daily wage of ₹300, which is expected to increase her income and provide greater financial support to her family.

Ms. Mandavi said that during the visit of Minister-in-Charge Gajendra Yadav to Rajnandgaon, she too was honoured with a shawl, a coconut and a memento. She said the recognition has enhanced her enthusiasm and self-confidence.

In addition to performing her responsibilities as a Mate, Ms. Mandavi said she also spreads awareness in her village about various government welfare schemes so that eligible beneficiaries can avail themselves of these programmes in a timely manner.

Both beneficiaries expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, stating that the VB-Giramji Scheme is emerging as an effective platform for providing dignified livelihoods to persons with disabilities. They said that the increased number of workdays, improved wages and greater responsibilities under the scheme have brought new hope, confidence and economic security into their lives.
