For Mrs. Kamti Bai Sahu, a Mitanin trainer from the remote forest village of Morkutumb in Chhuria development block of Rajnandgaon district, solar energy has become more than just a source of electricity—it has significantly reduced her household’s monthly power expenses under the PM Surya Ghar Free Electricity Scheme.

A 3 kW rooftop solar power plant installed under the scheme has brought her family’s monthly electricity bill virtually down to zero, providing savings of approximately ₹1,000 every month.

Mrs. Kamti Sahu said she works as a Mitanin trainer, while her husband runs a grocery shop. Earlier, the family used to pay more than ₹1,000 every month towards electricity bills, adding to their household expenditure. After learning about the PM Surya Ghar Free Electricity Scheme, she applied under the programme and had a 3 kW rooftop solar panel installed on her home.

Following the installation, her electricity bill for the current month was zero, resulting in savings of nearly ₹1,000. She stated that she received a subsidy of ₹78,000 from the Central Government and ₹30,000 from the State Government for the installation of the solar system. The total financial assistance of ₹1.08 lakh enabled the family to install the rooftop solar plant without financial difficulty.

Mrs. Sahu added that her family now generates electricity for its own consumption and also benefits by supplying surplus power to the electricity grid.

According to Mrs. Kamti Sahu, the PM Surya Ghar Free Electricity Scheme is not only contributing to household savings but is also an important initiative for environmental conservation. She said that increased use of solar energy reduces dependence on conventional energy sources, helping lower pollution and conserve natural resources.

She appealed to more people to avail themselves of the scheme so that every home, village and neighbourhood can become part of the transition towards clean and green energy.

Expressing gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, she said the scheme is proving beneficial for families living in rural and forest areas by simultaneously promoting financial savings, energy self-reliance and environmental conservation.
