Collector Jitendra Yadav Directs Urban Bodies and Gram Panchayats to Prioritize Waste Segregation, Scientific Disposal and Public Participation

A district-level committee review meeting on the effective implementation of the Solid Waste Management Rules 2026 (SWM Rules 2026) and strengthening sanitation arrangements across the district was held at the Collectorate Conference Hall under the chairmanship of Collector Jitendra Yadav.
Focus on Sustainable Development and Environmental Protection
Addressing the meeting, Collector Yadav stated that cleanliness and environmental protection are important pillars of sustainable development. He directed all departments, urban local bodies and gram panchayats to work in accordance with the provisions of the rules and prioritize waste segregation at source, scientific management of waste and active public participation.
The Collector instructed officials to ensure 100 percent registration of bulk waste generators and enforce effective control over the use of single-use plastic.
Emphasis on Composting, Recycling and Awareness Campaigns
He further directed authorities to promote local-level processing of biodegradable waste, encourage recycling initiatives and expand public awareness activities related to sanitation and waste management.

The Collector also emphasized the need to develop a regular monitoring mechanism in gram panchayats and urban local bodies. Officials were instructed to prepare a time-bound action plan and ensure its effective implementation.
Review of Existing Waste Management Systems
During the meeting, a detailed review was conducted regarding the current status of solid waste management in urban local bodies and gram panchayats across the district. Discussions focused on source-level waste segregation, door-to-door waste collection, registration of bulk waste generators, plastic waste management, composting, recycling and the scientific disposal of waste.
The committee also deliberated on the necessary action plan for ensuring effective compliance with various provisions of the Solid Waste Management Rules 2026.

The meeting was attended by District Panchayat CEO Suruchi Singh, Additional Collector C.L. Markandey, Additional Collector Prem Prakash Sharma, Municipal Corporation Commissioner Atul Vishwakarma, SDM Dongargarh M. Bhargava, SDM Rajnandgaon Gautam Patil, SDM Dongargaon Shrikant Koram, along with officials from the Swachh Bharat Mission (Rural and Urban) and other departments.
