Special legal literacy camps are being organised in schools across Rajnandgaon district under the ‘Safe Childhood’ campaign to raise awareness among students about protection from sexual offences, personal safety and their legal rights.
The initiative, titled A Pan-India School Awareness Campaign on the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012, has been launched under the direction of the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA), New Delhi, and the guidance of the Chhattisgarh State Legal Services Authority, Bilaspur.
Under the direction of Principal District and Sessions Judge Vijay Kumar Hota, the first phase of the campaign is being conducted from October 26 to 31, 2026, through special legal awareness camps in schools.
Awareness Camp Held at Bajrangpur-Nawagaon School
As part of the initiative, a special legal literacy camp was organised on October 27 at Government Higher Secondary School, Bajrangpur-Nawagaon.
Civil Judge (Junior Division), Rajnandgaon, Vandana Mandavi, attended the programme as a speaker, along with Legal Sarathis Ravi Pitroda and Nitin Sahu.
Addressing the students, Judge Mandavi explained the key objectives of the NALSA-led campaign and highlighted the provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012.

She emphasised that every student should understand personal boundaries and recognise the difference between safe and unsafe behaviour. Children were advised to immediately inform their parents or teachers about any inappropriate behaviour without fear or hesitation.
Students Educated on Personal Safety and Cybercrime
The session also highlighted the need for children to remain alert to online threats and cybercrime. Students were encouraged to speak up against misconduct and harassment instead of remaining silent.
The speakers explained that if a child experiences inappropriate behaviour, the matter should be reported immediately to parents so that timely and appropriate action can be taken.
The campaign aims to remove fear from children’s minds and build confidence that parents and teachers are there to support and protect them. Students were encouraged not to conceal any secret or incident that makes them feel frightened or uncomfortable.
Legal Helplines Shared for Emergency Assistance
Students were informed about the legal assistance and child protection helplines available to them in emergency situations.
- NALSA Helpline: 15100 — for legal assistance.
- Child Helpline: 1098 — for child-related assistance.
The awareness programme stressed the importance of seeking help promptly whenever children face unsafe situations or harassment.
Awareness Camps Held in Other Schools Across the District
As part of the same campaign, judicial friends conducted awareness sessions at several other educational institutions in the district. These included:
- Government Middle School, Litiya
- Government Middle School, Sukuldaihan
- Kasturba Higher Secondary School, Rajnandgaon
- Government Higher Secondary School, Pendri
- Government Middle School, Jangleshwar
- Government Middle School, Mohad
Students at these schools were informed about the provisions of the POCSO Act and educated on distinguishing between good touch and bad touch.
Through these school-level initiatives, the campaign seeks to improve children’s awareness of personal safety, encourage them to report inappropriate conduct and help them understand the legal support available to protect them from sexual offences.
