The Rajnandgaon Municipal Corporation is undertaking a range of measures to improve civic amenities, streamline traffic movement and maintain cleanliness across the city. The ongoing initiatives include the removal of stray cattle, road repairs, temporary parking arrangements, anti-encroachment drives, regular sanitation and the renovation of public parks.

Stray Cattle Removal Drive Conducted in Two Shifts

To prevent road accidents and improve traffic flow, the Municipal Corporation is conducting a campaign to remove stray cattle from public roads. Dedicated teams are working in two shifts—day and night—to catch cattle found sitting on major roads and at important intersections and transport them to the cattle pound.

A separate team has also been constituted by the concerned department to remove cattle from the national highway. Reflective strips are being placed around the necks of cattle to reduce the risk of accidents, particularly in low-visibility conditions. Cattle owners are being strictly instructed to keep their animals tethered and not leave them roaming on roads.

Temporary Parking Arrangements to Ease Traffic Congestion

The Municipal Corporation and the Traffic Department are jointly working to improve traffic management, particularly in view of the festive season. Shopkeepers in market areas and along major roads are being advised to keep merchandise within the designated limits of their shops and ensure that parking spaces remain unobstructed. Action is also being taken against those causing traffic disruptions.

Temporary parking facilities have been arranged at suitable locations, including Municipal School, near Putri Shala, beneath the flyover and at Ganj Chowk. A plan is also being prepared to further improve the city’s traffic system. Anti-encroachment drives are being conducted periodically in response to complaints.

Road Repairs and Bitumen Surfacing Planned

The Municipal Corporation is carrying out patchwork repairs on roads damaged by rainfall. Potholes are being filled to make travel safer and smoother. A notice has been issued to the concerned contractor regarding substandard bitumen surfacing work.

The Municipal Corporation and the Public Works Department have invited tenders for road surfacing, and the work is expected to begin soon. The Public Works Department will also undertake repairs to roads near the underbridge. Potholes caused by rain in Ward No. 24 and other parts of the city will be repaired through patchwork.

Regular Cleaning and Waste Collection Continue

The Corporation’s health department is carrying out daily cleaning and garbage collection across city wards, along with regular cleaning of drains. Contractors are being issued instructions from time to time, and sanitation work is being monitored regularly. Action is taken whenever negligence is found.

The Corporation acknowledged that staff shortages caused by the retirement of sanitation workers have created some difficulties. Despite these challenges, efforts are continuing to maintain cleanliness with the available resources.

Regular cleaning is also being carried out in Ward No. 24. Waste and dirt near the well at Gandhi Chowk are being cleared.

Public Parks to Undergo Renovation

The Municipal Corporation is planning beautification and renovation work at public parks across the city. The park located along the service road will be renovated soon, and its damaged fencing will also be repaired. Provision has also been made for the renovation of the Collectorate park.

These works are intended to improve public amenities and enhance the city’s appearance.

Basantpur Road to Be Levelled After Pipeline Testing

Excavation for pipeline installation near the city’s weekly market on Basantpur Road has led to muddy conditions during rainfall. The excavated sections will be filled and levelled after pipeline testing is completed to facilitate the movement of commuters.

Arrangements Made for Durga Idol Immersion

The Municipal Corporation had deployed officers and employees on October 19 and 20 to manage Durga idol immersion arrangements. The immersion pond at Mohara was cleaned before the immersion process.

Durga festival committees were also advised not to use polythene or plastic materials during worship and idol immersion. As part of efforts to protect the environment, they were encouraged to use rose and marigold flower petals instead.

Encroaching Cart Removed Following Complaint in Gaurinagar

Following a case involving cow slaughter and the sale of beef in the Gaurinagar area, police had initiated legal action against 11 accused persons. Subsequently, after receiving a complaint alleging illegal meat sales by one of the accused, the Municipal Corporation removed an encroaching cart belonging to the concerned individual.

During the action, a demand was raised for the demolition of the accused person’s house. The Mayor advised that any such action should be taken appropriately in accordance with the rules.

The Municipal Corporation’s ongoing initiatives cover traffic management, road maintenance, sanitation, public spaces and the removal of encroachments, with the stated objective of improving civic facilities and public convenience across Rajnandgaon.
