Six Players Earn Spot in Indian School Team

Six players from Sarvagya Rao Basketball Academy, DPS Khelo India Academy and Yugantar Khelo India Academy, Rajnandgaon, have been selected to represent India at the World School Basketball Championship to be held in Zlatibor, Serbia, from June 13 to 22, 2026.

The selected players are Anjani, Rumi Konwar, Kamya Jha, Reva Kulkarni, Himanshu Singh and Shubham Singh.

Their selection marks a significant milestone for basketball development in Rajnandgaon and highlights the growing prominence of the district on the national sporting stage.

Seven Players Invited to National Training Camp

It is noteworthy that seven players from these academies were earlier selected for the Indian School Team training camp being held in Ranchi from May 26 to June 10, 2026.

The camp is being organized by the School Games Federation of India (SGFI) as part of the preparation process for the international championship.

Selection Process Through National School Championships

The School Games Federation of India invited nearly 75 boys and 75 girls from the Senior School National Basketball Championship held in Barmer and the Junior School National Basketball Championship organized in Rajnandgaon for selection trials in Ranchi.

Following the trials, seven players from Rajnandgaon academies were shortlisted for the national coaching camp.

The girls selected for the camp were Anjani, Rumi Konwar, Kamya Jha, Arya Vijay Aware and Reva Kulkarni, while Shubham Singh and Himanshu Singh represented the boys’ category.

These players had earlier represented CBSE as members of championship-winning teams in national competitions.

Players Represent Leading Schools of Rajnandgaon

Among the selected athletes, Rumi Konwar, Reva Kulkarni and Arya Vijay Aware are associated with DPS Khelo India Academy, Rajnandgaon, while Kamya Jha and Anjani are students of Delhi Public School, Rajnandgaon.

Shubham Singh and Himanshu Singh are associated with Yugantar Public School, Rajnandgaon.

All these players regularly train at the Sarvagya Rao Basketball Academy located at Rewadih, Rajnandgaon.

International Coaches Behind the Success

The athletes have been receiving professional coaching from international basketball coaches Kalava Rajeshwar Rao and Kalava Radha Rao.

Their guidance and training have played a crucial role in nurturing young talent and preparing players for national and international competitions.

Proud Moment for Rajnandgaon and Chhattisgarh

The achievement has been hailed as a proud moment for Delhi Public School Rajnandgaon, Yugantar Public School Rajnandgaon, Sarvagya Rao Basketball Academy, the district of Rajnandgaon and the entire state of Chhattisgarh.

Legacy of National Success

Delhi Public School Rajnandgaon’s Under-17 boys’ and girls’ teams had earlier won gold medals in the CBSE National Basketball Championship.

Similarly, the boys’ team of Yugantar Public School Rajnandgaon secured a gold medal in the Senior CBSE National Basketball Championship.

Based on these performances, the teams earned the opportunity to represent CBSE in the Senior and Junior National School Basketball Championships.

The DPS girls’ team went on to win the gold medal while representing CBSE in the Junior National School Basketball Championship.

Congratulatory Messages Pour In

The players and their coaches, Kalava Rajeshwar Rao and Kalava Radha Rao, have received congratulatory messages from several educationists and sports administrators.

Among those extending their best wishes were DPS Rajnandgaon Director Saurabh Kothari, Sunil Jain, Ramdev Rathi, Abhishek Vaishnav, Principal Mrs. Nirmala Singh, Mohan Rao, Mohan Sahu, Yugantar Public School Director Sushil Kothari, Ajay Singhi, Akharaj Kotadia, Principal Madhusudan Nair and Sports Officer Dinesh Pratap Singh.

Their achievement is expected to inspire a new generation of basketball players across Rajnandgaon and Chhattisgarh.
