Once affected by Maoist influence, the remote village of Kudhur in Kondagaon district is now scripting a new story of development and self-reliance. The expanding reach of government welfare schemes has transformed the region, and one inspiring example of this change is local resident Mrs. Ramsheela Kashyap, who is earning nearly ₹25,000 per month by operating a grocery shop.

Joining the Livelihood Mission: A Turning Point

Ramsheela Kashyap found a new direction in life after associating with the National Rural Livelihood Mission (Bihan). In 2018, she began her journey towards self-reliance by becoming a member of the “Jai Maa Danteshwari” Self-Help Group.

At that time, the village had only one grocery shop, forcing residents to travel nearly 20 kilometres to Mardapal for daily essentials.

A Bold Decision to Serve the Village

Understanding the difficulties faced by villagers, Ramsheela Kashyap took the courageous decision to open a grocery store within the village itself. With financial assistance of ₹50,000 received through the self-help group, she started her small business.

Over time, she gradually expanded her inventory according to local needs and strengthened her enterprise through consistent effort and planning.

From Small Initiative to Community Convenience

Today, Ramsheela’s modest initiative has become a major convenience for the entire village. Essential commodities are now easily available locally, eliminating the need for long-distance travel.

Alongside improving access to daily necessities for villagers, the grocery shop has significantly enhanced the economic condition of her family. She currently earns approximately ₹20,000 to ₹25,000 every month through the business.

Earlier dependent solely on agriculture, her family now enjoys financial stability with an additional and reliable source of income.

Inspiring Women Towards Self-Reliance

Ramsheela Kashyap’s success story has emerged as a source of inspiration not only for her family but also for women across the region. She actively motivates other women to join self-help groups and pursue self-employment opportunities.

Expressing gratitude, Ramsheela acknowledged the support received through government schemes and thanked the administration for enabling her journey towards economic empowerment and self-reliance.
