Encouraging young voices and participatory dialogue, a Bal Chaupal (children’s interactive forum) was organised at the Government Middle School in Junglapur village of Rajnandgaon district by the Chhattisgarh State Commission for Protection of Child Rights. The initiative aimed to spread awareness among children about their rights, duties, education, health, and safety while creating a platform where they could express their concerns without hesitation.

During the session, children spoke openly on various issues, with a significant focus on the growing challenge of substance abuse. Several students asked questions on how society and youth could collectively fight against drug addiction, reflecting both awareness and concern about the issue. They also shared problems related to school infrastructure and educational resources directly with Commission Chairperson Dr. Varnika Sharma.

Dr. Sharma listened attentively to the children and instructed concerned officials present at the programme to ensure better facilities and support systems for students. She emphasised that empowering children through dialogue helps build confidence and awareness, enabling them to actively participate in decisions affecting their lives.

The Bal Chaupal was conducted under her guidance as part of ongoing efforts to promote child participation and holistic development. Officials noted that such interactive programmes play a crucial role in strengthening child protection mechanisms and encouraging awareness at the grassroots level.

The event was also attended by the city’s First Lady citizen, Karuna Madhusudan Yadav, who appealed to parents to spend meaningful time with their children despite busy schedules. She remarked that the most valuable legacy parents can give is their presence and attention, which leaves lifelong positive memories. She appreciated the Commission’s initiative and assured continued support for similar programmes in the future.

Social worker Siddhi Mirani provided important health-related information to the children during the programme. Local community members and villagers, including social activists and representatives from Junglapur, were also present.

Organisers said the primary objective of the Bal Chaupal was to eliminate hesitation among children and encourage their overall development so that they can grow into confident individuals capable of contributing positively to society.
