Transport Department Conducts Safety Inspection of 104 School Buses in Rajnandgaon

Action taken against buses lacking pollution certificates and safety standards during Road Safety Month

As per the directions of the Supreme Court, the Transport Department conducted standard safety inspections of 104 school buses operating under the jurisdiction of the Office of the Additional Regional Transport Officer (ARTO) in Rajnandgaon. The inspection was carried out at the Police Lines Ground as part of the Traffic and Transport Road Safety Month, being observed from January 1 to January 31, 2026.

During the inspection, officials thoroughly checked permits, fitness certificates, insurance documents, pollution under control (PUC) certificates, and other mandatory records of the school buses. Action was taken against two school buses for not possessing valid pollution certificates, resulting in e-challans totaling ₹4,000. Additionally, one vehicle was fined ₹300 via e-challan for not meeting prescribed safety standards.

A medical team conducted health check-ups and eye examinations of all bus drivers and conductors to ensure their fitness for duty. Addressing the drivers, Additional Regional Transport Officer Mr. Anand Sharma instructed them to drive at controlled speeds, strictly follow traffic rules, and remain in prescribed uniforms while on duty.

The inspection drive was conducted in the presence of officials from the Transport and Traffic Departments, including Assistant Transport Sub-Inspector Pankaj Tamboli, Mithilesh Kumar, Vipin Mehar, Vijay Matte, Santosh Burde, along with Traffic Sub-Inspector Anil Tiwari, Head Constable Rohit Gajendra, and other personnel. The medical team included ophthalmologist Dr. N.C. Lange, eye assistant Dr. Sanjeev Yadav, and Medical Officer Dr. Gaurav.
