Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, Delhi, Punjab and CBSE Advance; Final and Prize Distribution on January 15

The 69th National School Games Basketball Championship (Under-17 Boys and Girls), organised by the School Games Federation of India (SGFI) and hosted by the School Education Department, is heading towards an exciting conclusion at Digvijay Stadium, Rajnandgaon. The championship is being held from January 11 to January 15, 2026, with participation from 36 teams representing 27 states and 9 educational institutions across the country.
On the third and fourth days of the tournament, pre-quarterfinal and quarterfinal matches were played at Digvijay Stadium and other sports grounds. Teams from Chhattisgarh (hosts), Maharashtra, Delhi, Punjab, CBSE, Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Chandigarh and CBSE-WSO delivered strong performances to progress to the next stages. Notably, both the boys’ and girls’ teams of host state Chhattisgarh have secured their places in the semifinals.

In the pre-quarterfinal matches, the girls’ category witnessed Uttar Pradesh defeating KVS 49–41, Kerala beating West Bengal 52–36, CBSE overpowering Jharkhand 45–15, Madhya Pradesh defeating Rajasthan 55–46, and Maharashtra overcoming Haryana 54–43. In the boys’ category, Tamil Nadu defeated Telangana 89–49, Delhi beat Chandigarh 64–29, KVS defeated Gujarat 60–48, Madhya Pradesh dominated Uttar Pradesh 42–14, CBSE-WSO defeated Rajasthan 47–38, while Maharashtra edged past CISCE in a thrilling encounter by 47–46.
The quarterfinal matches played on the morning of January 14 saw CBSE girls defeat Madhya Pradesh 45–20, Maharashtra beat Kerala 54–28, Delhi overcome Uttar Pradesh 55–31, and host Chhattisgarh defeat Chandigarh 74–60 to enter the semifinals. In the boys’ category, Delhi defeated Maharashtra 64–29, Punjab won a closely contested match against Tamil Nadu 69–66, and Chhattisgarh defeated Madhya Pradesh 35–19 to secure semifinal berths.

The final match of the championship will be played on January 15 at 7:35 am at Digvijay Stadium. The closing and prize distribution ceremony will take place the same day at 11:00 am. Member of Parliament Santosh Pandey will attend as the chief guest, while District Panchayat President Smt. Kiran Ravindra Vaishnav will preside over the ceremony. Several legislators and senior dignitaries will be present as special guests.
The championship has witnessed impressive performances from young athletes, with a total of 1,006 participants taking part—429 boys and 402 girls in the Under-17 basketball category—representing states such as Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Delhi, Maharashtra, Punjab, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, and host Chhattisgarh, along with major educational boards and institutions.
