Rajnandgaon: In line with the intent of the Chhattisgarh Government’s Revenue and Disaster Management Department and on the directions of Superintendent of Police Rajnandgaon, Ms. Ankita Sharma, a significant meeting of Kotwars was organised at Dongargaon Police Station on January 9, 2026. The meeting was conducted under the guidance of Sub-Divisional Police Officer Dongargaon, Mr. Dilip Sisodia.

Kotwars from all villages within the police station limits attended the meeting, which aimed to reinforce the village-level information system and further strengthen the role of Kotwars as key links between rural communities and the administration.

During the meeting, Kotwars were given detailed instructions regarding their responsibilities, regular attendance, and the importance of prompt information sharing. They were specifically directed to maintain separate registers in each village for travellers, strangers, and persons residing temporarily, ensuring that complete details of all visitors are properly recorded.

Kotwars were also instructed to inform the village secretary or concerned staff in a timely manner about every birth and death occurring in their respective villages. Emphasis was laid on accuracy and punctuality in reporting, considering the administrative and legal importance of such records.

As part of the police department’s mobile police initiative “Samvad,” Kotwars were sensitised about cyber crimes, adherence to traffic rules, and the risks of accidents and criminal incidents caused by alcohol consumption. They were encouraged to spread awareness at the village level and play an active role in preventive policing.

Police officials highlighted that Kotwars and village Patels form the backbone of the governance and information system in rural India. Their role in conveying even minor incidents from remote villages to higher authorities is of critical importance. The police acknowledged that in several complex and unresolved cases, information provided by Kotwars has proven decisive in achieving breakthroughs.

The officers expressed confidence that Kotwars would continue to act as a strong bridge between the government, police administration, and the rural population, and would contribute effectively to maintaining law and order through timely and accurate information sharing.
