The National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) on Wednesday raised strong objections over what it termed a serious lapse in food safety at the Dental College in Sundara, after a frog was allegedly found in a meal served to students in the college mess. Terming the incident a direct threat to students’ health, the NSUI submitted a memorandum to District Deputy Collector Abhishek Tiwari under the leadership of State General Secretary Raja Yadav.

Addressing the media, Raja Yadav said that reports and images circulating on social media and in news outlets revealed a highly disturbing situation in the college mess, where a frog was discovered in the food served to students. “This is extremely alarming and potentially dangerous for students’ health. Earlier too, complaints about cockroaches being found in food at the same college had surfaced, yet the administration has failed to take concrete corrective measures,” he said.

NSUI student leader Pradeep Sahu questioned the apparent inaction by the college administration despite repeated complaints. He also raised concerns over the lack of regular inspections by the district food safety department, asking why stringent action had not been initiated so far against those responsible for the mess operations.

The NSUI has demanded an impartial inquiry into the incident and strict legal action against the guilty officials and contractors. The organisation warned that if decisive steps are not taken promptly, it would be compelled to launch an intensified agitation in the interest of student safety.

Several NSUI members, including Mehul Kumar, Pradeep Sahu, Bhupesh Dahare, Vipin, Prithvi Rai, Ayush Sinha, Santosh Sahu, Kamlesh and Aditya, were present during the submission of the memorandum.

It may be noted that the incident came to light two days ago when photographs allegedly showing a frog in the vegetable served at the dental college mess went viral on social media. The visuals triggered widespread outrage among students and sparked sharp reactions from political, social and student organisations.

The episode has raised serious questions about hygiene standards, monitoring mechanisms and accountability within the college administration. Students have expressed anger and anxiety, demanding clarity on who will be held responsible, how the investigation will be conducted and what concrete measures will be taken to prevent such incidents in the future. The controversy has also dealt a blow to the institution’s credibility, intensifying calls for immediate administrative intervention.
