National Mathematics Day Celebrated at Kamla College with Quiz, Workshop and Poster Competition

Government Kamaladevi Rathi Women’s Postgraduate College, Rajnandgaon celebrated National Mathematics Day on January 2, 2026, with a grand academic programme based on the theme “Mathematics, Art and Creativity in the Indian Knowledge System”. The event was organised by the Department of Mathematics under the guidance of College Principal Dr. Anjali Avadhiya.

The programme featured a Mathematical Quiz, workshop and poster competition, aimed at fostering analytical thinking and enhancing students’ interest in mathematics through innovative and interactive approaches.

Dr. Nirmala Umre, Principal of Government Shivnath Science College, attended the programme as the chief guest. In her address, she highlighted the importance of mathematics education, stating that mathematics strengthens logical thinking, problem-solving abilities and serves as a strong foundation for success in life.

The special guest, Dr. K.K. Devangan, Head of the Mathematics Department at Government Digvijay Autonomous College, spoke in detail about the life, personality and unparalleled contributions of legendary mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan. He emphasised Ramanujan’s lasting impact on modern mathematics and his inspiration for future generations.

Programme coordinator and Head of the Mathematics Department, Dr. Omkarlal Shrivastava, underlined the relevance of the Indian Knowledge System and Ramanujan’s contributions to contemporary mathematics. He encouraged students to develop interest in the subject through engaging mathematical games and activities.

Organising secretary Chandan Sahu presented mathematics in a simple, interesting and enjoyable manner using creative examples such as “Kitne Bhai Kitni Behen” and “Look and Say”, which generated enthusiasm among students.

The Mathematical Quiz competition was conducted in two stages. In the first round, more than 130 students participated in a written test. Based on performance, selected participants formed teams for the second round, which was held as an oral final in the college auditorium. The final round witnessed the presence of over 300 students.

At the inter-school level, the team from Neeraj Public School—Kovid, Vaibhav, Lucky and Meher—secured first place, followed by Royal Kids School’s team comprising Shauryam, Shubhojit, Nitin and Divya in second place. Government Maharani Laxmibai School’s team of Ragini, Garima, Bhumika and Likeshwari won third prize.

In the inter-college category, the BSc third-year team from Kamla College—Mimansa, Yamini, Princey and Sandhya—won first prize. The team from Shivnath Science College—Tanish, Vasudev, Greshma and Chandni—secured second place, while Kamla College’s third-semester team—Divya, Payal, Mahek and Bhumika—bagged third prize.

The successful organisation of the event reflected the institution’s commitment to academic excellence and innovative learning, while inspiring students to view mathematics as a creative and engaging discipline.
