5 Iconic Characters Who Will Be Missed in ‘Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi’ Reboot

As Ekta Kapoor’s Legendary TV Show Returns, Fans Recall the Absence of Key Figures from the Original Cast

The iconic Indian soap opera Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi is all set to return to Indian television with a reboot, premiering on July 29, 2025, on Star Plus. Produced by Ekta Kapoor, the show marks the television comeback of Smriti Irani as Tulsi Virani. Behind-the-scenes moments from the sets have gone viral, building excitement among fans.

While the revival promises a fresh take on the beloved family saga, it also serves as a reminder of some legendary characters who won’t be a part of this new journey. Here’s a tribute to five characters from the original series whose absence will be deeply felt:

1. Baa (Sudha Shivpuri):
Sudha Shivpuri played the wise and affectionate matriarch, Baa, who held the Virani family together with her values and compassion. Her character passed away in the original show’s final episodes. Tragically, the actress also passed away in 2015, leaving behind a legacy of warmth and wisdom.

2. Savita Virani (Apara Mehta):
Tulsi’s sharp-tongued mother-in-law, Savita Virani, was portrayed by Apara Mehta. Her complex relationship with Tulsi added emotional depth to the series. Savita’s character died in the original season, asking Tulsi to end her life by switching off her ventilator — a moment etched in the memory of every Kyunki fan.

3. Gautam Virani (Sumeet Sachdev):
Sumeet Sachdev played Gautam “Gomzy” Virani, Tulsi’s elder son. A beloved character known for his charm and presence, Gautam will not appear in the reboot, much to the disappointment of fans who admired his bond with Tulsi.

4. Payal (Jaya Bhattacharya):
Long before Mandira, it was Payal who wreaked havoc in Tulsi’s life. Played by Jaya Bhattacharya, this antagonistic character was a major force in the show for over seven years. Her cunning tactics and dramatic storyline made her one of the most memorable villains on Indian television.

5. Ansh Gujral (Akashdeep Saigal):
Akashdeep Saigal portrayed Ansh Gujral, Tulsi’s troubled son, who ultimately pushed her to the brink. His dark character arc culminated in one of the most shocking moments in Indian TV history — Tulsi killing her own son. Given the dramatic end to his role, Ansh will not feature in the reboot.

As viewers prepare for a new chapter in the Kyunki saga, the legacy of these characters continues to live on in the hearts of those who grew up watching the original series. The reboot may introduce fresh faces and plotlines, but the emotional imprint of Baa, Savita, Gautam, Payal, and Ansh remains irreplaceable.
