Advanced Surgery Brings New Hope to Patient

Doctors at the Chhattisgarh Institute of Medical Sciences (SIMS), Bilaspur, have once again demonstrated medical excellence by successfully performing a complex surgical procedure that helped a 22-year-old youth regain vision and return to a normal life. The patient received major relief after doctors successfully reconstructed the lower eyelid of an eye severely damaged in a road accident.

Complications Increased After December 2025 Accident

According to available information, the youth met with a road accident in December 2025, during which his lower eyelid suffered extensive damage. Due to the injury, he was unable to completely close his eye. Despite initial treatment, the condition did not improve as expected, prompting him to seek specialized care at the Ophthalmology Department of SIMS.

Specialists Opted for Surgical Intervention

After a detailed medical examination, eye specialists decided to proceed with surgery. During the operation, hardened old scar tissue formed on the eyelid was carefully removed. Advanced skin grafting technology was then used to restore the natural structure and functionality of the eyelid.

Rapid Recovery After Complex Procedure

The surgery was highly complex, primarily because of the large size of the graft required. Nevertheless, specialists successfully transplanted the skin graft and reconstructed the eyelid along with part of the cheek area. Following the operation, the patient showed rapid improvement. He is now able to see normally, and the eyelid closes completely, eliminating facial deformity caused by the injury.

Medical Team Behind the Successful Surgery

The successful procedure was carried out by a team of specialists including Dr. Suchita Singh, Dr. Prabha Sonwani, Dr. Kaumal Devangan, Dr. Vinod Tamkandand, Dr. Delina Nelson, Dr. Sanjay Chaudhary, and Dr. Aniket, along with nursing staff Sister Sandeep Kaur and teams from the Ophthalmology, Surgery, and Anaesthesia departments.

Patient and Family Express Gratitude

Hospital authorities confirmed that the surgery was completely successful. The patient’s eyelid has returned to normal condition, and eye functionality has been restored. With facial deformity corrected, the patient and family members expressed relief and gratitude towards the doctors at SIMS.
