District-wide special drive launched under SP Ankita Sharma; multiple arrests, illegal liquor and nearly 6 kg cannabis seized

In a major law-and-order drive ahead of the Holi festival, Rajnandgaon police launched a district-wide special campaign targeting illegal liquor trade, cannabis trafficking, public disorder, gambling and unlawful display of weapons. Acting under the direction of Superintendent of Police Ankita Sharma, police teams from various police stations and outposts carried out a series of coordinated operations over two days.
The crackdown resulted in multiple arrests, seizure of illegal liquor and cannabis, as well as action against individuals disturbing public peace. Officials said the initiative aims to ensure that Holi celebrations across the district remain peaceful and safe.
Dongargaon: Illegal Liquor Seized on Dry Day
In Dongargaon, police conducted a raid at Bharat Dhaba in Amleedeh during a dry day and seized seven cases of illegal liquor. The seized stock included 336 quarter bottles (60.480 bulk litres) of liquor. The dhaba operator was arrested and later sent to jail after being produced before the court.
Lalbag Police Station: Accused Arrested Under Arms Act
At Lalbag police station limits, an accused was arrested in Pendri village for brandishing a knife in public and intimidating local residents. A case was registered against him under the Arms Act 1959, and he was sent to jail.
In a separate incident, another individual was taken into preventive custody for disturbing public peace and presented before the court.

Ghumka: Action Against Public Disorder
In Ghumka, two youths were arrested for creating a ruckus at a public square while under the influence of alcohol during Holi celebrations. Police booked them under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita and produced them before the SDM court.
Somni: Preventive Arrests and Drunk Driving Case
In Somni police station limits, two individuals involved in a heated dispute in Dheerhi village were arrested for disturbing public peace and produced before the Executive Magistrate.
Additionally, police seized a car after catching a youth driving under the influence of alcohol. Action was taken against him under the Motor Vehicles Act 1988.
Chikhli Outpost & Cyber Cell: Cannabis Seized
A joint team from Chikhli outpost and the cyber cell arrested two accused who were allegedly preparing to sell cannabis during Holi festivities. Police recovered 5.947 kilograms of cannabis valued at approximately ₹59,470 from their possession.
Authorities also initiated preventive action against two other suspected troublemakers to prevent any breach of peace.
Bortalav: Six Gamblers Arrested in Jungle Area
Police at Bortalav police station caught six individuals gambling with playing cards in a forested area. Officers seized ₹3,700 in cash, a deck of 52 playing cards and three mobile phones. The total value of seized items was estimated at ₹18,700.
A case was registered under the Chhattisgarh Gambling Prohibition Act.
Police Intensify Patrolling Ahead of Festival
Police officials stated that the special enforcement campaign will continue throughout the Holi festival period. Additional forces have been deployed at sensitive locations, and continuous patrols are being conducted in both urban and rural areas to prevent disturbances.
Authorities have also appealed to citizens to celebrate Holi peacefully, avoid spreading rumours and immediately inform the police about any suspicious activity.
