Waterlogging Management, Night Cleaning, Pothole Repairs and Stray Cattle Drive Intensified Across the City

The Rajnandgaon Municipal Corporation has intensified civic operations to address waterlogging, maintain urban sanitation, and ensure the uninterrupted delivery of essential public services amid continuous rainfall across the city.
As part of the monsoon preparedness measures, major drains and roadside drains are being cleaned regularly. Wherever required, temporary earthen drains are being excavated to facilitate the smooth flow of rainwater and prevent waterlogging.
The Municipal Corporation said special monitoring is being carried out in vulnerable locations, including the Bus Stand, District Hospital, areas beneath the flyover, and Circuit House Road, to ensure efficient drainage.
Waste removed during drain cleaning is allowed to dry before being transported to designated disposal sites using JCB machines and tipper vehicles.
Night-time sanitation operations are also being conducted regularly in the market area, while door-to-door waste collection continues through the city’s Swachhta Didis, ensuring household garbage is collected daily.
Pothole Repairs and Road Maintenance Underway
The Corporation said that wherever waterlogging occurs due to rainfall, temporary drains are being created immediately to facilitate water discharge.
Road repair work, including the filling of potholes near Sheetla Temple and patchwork on city roads, is being carried out on a priority basis. With the upcoming Ganesh festival, repairs on major roads have been given special priority.
Development works are also progressing across wards under two sanctioned instalments of ₹10 crore each received from the state government. Contractors have been directed to expedite incomplete and ongoing projects, while notices have been issued in cases of delays.
The Corporation said that resurfacing of some approved roads has been delayed due to the limited availability of bitumen, and necessary action is being taken. Proposals for the asphalting of major city roads have also been forwarded to the government.
Coordination with Other Departments
The Municipal Corporation noted that several key roads, including the Old Bus Stand Road, District Hospital Road, and the Chikhli stretch of Khairagarh Road, fall under the jurisdiction of the Public Works Department (PWD). Correspondence, along with a list of roads requiring repairs, has been sent to the department.

Similarly, although the Mahavir Chowk road is part of the National Highway, the Municipal Corporation has been carrying out periodic patchwork to maintain smooth traffic movement.
Stray Cattle Drive Continues
To improve road safety during the rainy season, the Municipal Corporation has continued its stray cattle capture campaign.
Stray cattle are being rounded up daily from different parts of the city and shifted to the Kanji House. Owners are required to pay a ₹570 penalty per animal for their release and are being advised not to allow cattle to roam freely on public roads.
Cleanliness Measures and Ongoing Infrastructure Works
Regular cleaning is being undertaken at Moti Talab, Tehsil Road, the market area, and other public places.
Citizens are being encouraged not to dump waste into ponds, drains, or public spaces. The Corporation said action, including penalties, will be taken against those found violating sanitation norms.
The repair and allotment process for shops at the Baigapara Haat Bazaar is being handled by the Revenue Department.
Meanwhile, the contractor executing the treatment plant project at Budha Sagar has been issued a notice to expedite the work. If the project is not completed within the stipulated period, approval has been sought to engage an alternative agency for its completion.
Officials also stated that waterlogging on Circuit House Road occurred due to blocked drainage outlets, which are currently being cleaned. The Electricity Department has been informed about damaged electrical pole boxes, and repairs are expected to be carried out shortly.
The Municipal Corporation appealed to residents not to dump waste into drains or public places, refrain from leaving cattle unattended on roads, and cooperate in keeping the city clean and safe.
