Road repairs, drain cleaning, streetlight restoration and encroachment removal prioritised ahead of rains and Ganesh festival

The Rajnandgaon Municipal Corporation has intensified ongoing measures to ensure smooth traffic movement, effective drainage, cleanliness, drinking water supply and improved civic amenities across the city.
In view of the monsoon and the upcoming Ganesh festival, the civic body has prioritised road repairs, cleaning of drains, restoration of streetlights and removal of encroachments.
The Municipal Corporation is conducting an encroachment removal drive to facilitate traffic movement and ensure proper water drainage. Roadside carts, temporary stalls and other encroachments obstructing traffic are being removed. Debris, construction material and waste dumped along roads are also being cleared.
Potholes on various city roads are being repaired through patchwork. The Corporation has also written to the concerned department regarding repairs of roads under the Public Works Department.
Streetlights and Road Infrastructure Being Improved
Closed streetlights on major routes, including Medical College Road, Bus Stand Road and Ring Road, are being identified and repaired on priority by the Corporation’s electrical team. Non-functional lights beneath the flyover are also being restored.
Road construction on the other side of the Medical College is underway, along with necessary repairs to the divider. The road in front of the Collectorate premises is a National Highway service road and is being repaired by the concerned department. Similarly, the damaged divider falls under a Public Works Department road and will be repaired by the concerned department.
Special Monitoring of Waterlogging-Prone Areas
Regular cleaning of major drains and drainage channels is being undertaken to prevent waterlogging during the monsoon. Special monitoring is being carried out in low-lying areas, including Kailash Nagar.
The Corporation is also focusing on drainage and sanitation to prevent seasonal diseases. Drains around commercial establishments are being cleaned, while shopkeepers are being advised not to block drainage channels and to keep adequate space open for water flow.
The sanitation staff is conducting regular cleaning in Prabhat Nagar and adjoining areas, particularly where dumping of debris, waste and plastic sheets on vacant land has created problems.
Special sanitation teams are being deployed wherever required. Waste dumped in parks is also being removed, while residents are being urged not to dispose of garbage in open spaces.
Temporary garbage accumulation along Tehsil Office Road, Tehsil Road, vacant land away from the bus stand and areas around Gandhi Auditorium is being cleared using tipper vehicles.
Drinking Water Supply Restored
The Municipal Corporation said that problems caused by muddy river water entering the intake well during heavy rainfall at the beginning of the monsoon have been addressed.

At present, adequate quantities of alum and chlorine are being used to ensure the supply of clean drinking water. The three filtration plants with capacities of 10 MLD, 17 MLD and 27 MLD are being operated properly.
The earlier chlorine gas leakage issue has also been rectified. A notice has been issued to the supplier and plant operator over negligence.
According to the Corporation, adequate stocks of alum, bleaching powder and chlorine are currently available. Water supply has been restored to normal after ensuring sufficient filling of overhead tanks through all three filtration plants.
A complaint of muddy water was reported from Shankarpur, Shanti Nagar, Motipur and Ramnagar in the Patritar area after a private telecom company damaged a pipeline during underground drilling. The Corporation is inspecting and repairing the leakage, while the concerned agency is being issued a notice.
Drive Against Stray Cattle
The Municipal Corporation is regularly conducting cattle-catching drives to prevent traffic disruption and reduce the risk of accidents caused by stray cattle sitting on roads and at major intersections.
Cattle caught from different parts of the city are being shifted to the Kanji House. Action is also being taken at night to remove cattle from roads.
The civic body is also taking necessary action on complaints related to stray and aggressive dogs. A letter has been sent seeking registration of an FIR against unidentified persons in connection with the theft of an iron railing at Ranisagar.
Patta Survey and Housing Measures
As per government directions, a Patta survey is currently underway. The survey is also being conducted in wards falling within the Municipal Corporation limits.
After completion of the survey, eligible beneficiaries will be provided pattas in accordance with government rules.
Action is being taken to remove encroachments around ponds whenever complaints are received. Eligible residents who have constructed houses by encroaching on pond areas are being advised to seek housing assistance under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana.
Regarding construction of a treatment plant at Budhasagar, a final notice has been issued to the contractor, while a proposal for a fresh tender process has again been sent to the government.
Target of Planting Around 10,000 Saplings
The Municipal Corporation has set a target of planting around 10,000 saplings during this year’s monsoon season. Plantation will also be undertaken in the garden located in front of the District Hospital.
The Corporation is taking care of plants that were affected by extreme heat in some parks earlier.
The Municipal Corporation said that continuous monitoring is being carried out across the city with focus on roads, drainage, drinking water supply, streetlights, sanitation and stray cattle management in view of the monsoon and upcoming Ganesh festival.
Citizens have been urged to cooperate in keeping the city clean and orderly, avoid dumping garbage in open areas and hand over waste only to the designated door-to-door garbage collection vehicles.
