The 2025–26 Kharif paddy procurement season has ushered in renewed joy and confidence among farmers across Rajnandgaon. With hopes high and spirits even higher, hardworking cultivators are arriving at procurement centres to sell their harvest, describing this year’s procurement as a “festival of prosperity.”

Farmers are receiving fair prices for their produce, and timely payments are bringing tangible benefits to rural households. At the Surgi Paddy Procurement Centre, farmers could be seen transporting their carefully stored harvest from villages and fields, confident that their hard work would translate into financial stability.

One such example is farmer Gendalal Chandrakar of village Buchibharra, who arrived at the Surgi centre with 190 quintals of paddy from his 50-acre farm. Having generated substantial income last year from paddy sales, Chandrakar proudly shared that he gifted his family a car and also purchased two tractors, a thresher, and multiple agricultural tools.

He said he booked his token using the “Token Tunhar Hath” mobile app and praised the government for offering a strong support price. Under the Minimum Support Price and Krishak Unnati Yojana, paddy is being procured at ₹3,100 per quintal with a limit of 21 quintals per acre — a system he credited for uplifting farmers financially.

Chandrakar also receives ₹6,000 annually under the PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi Scheme, which he described as an additional cushion for farming families. He expressed satisfaction with the arrangements at the Surgi centre — availability of drinking water, shaded waiting areas, adequate gunny bags, labourers, and smooth electronic weighing facilities. “Government procurement has brought real prosperity to farmers,” he said, thanking Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai.

The Surgi procurement centre caters to farmers from Khumhalori, Beltikri, Arla, Buchibharra, Surgi, Kotrabhata, Mudpar, and Malpuri villages. A total of 1,768 farmers are registered here and are selling paddy systematically using online tokens.

Among them was farmer Parmeshwar Sahu from Mudpar, who cultivates around 9 acres of paddy. He noted that the centre’s arrangements were efficient, and obtaining a token was effortless. He recalled that earlier, farmers were compelled to take loans from moneylenders and private markets. Now, thanks to the MSP system and Krishak Unnati Yojana, farmers are saving more and farming independently without relying on intermediaries.

This year’s procurement is not just a commercial exercise but a reflection of the growing economic strength of rural households — a “piggy bank of happiness,” as farmers joyfully describe it.
