Political Tempers Soar in Rajnandgaon as Newly Appointed City Congress Chief Jeetu Mudliyar Leads Aggressive Protest

Massive Demonstration at Manav Mandir Chowk; Effigy of Chief Minister Vishnudev Sai Burnt Amid Anti-Government Slogans

The political landscape of Rajnandgaon heated up dramatically on Friday as the newly appointed City Congress President Jeetu (Jitendra) Mudliyar took charge and immediately hit the streets with an aggressive show of strength. Within 24 hours of assuming office, Mudliyar led a massive demonstration at Manav Mandir Chowk, where Congress workers burnt an effigy of Chief Minister Vishnudev Sai, accusing the BJP-led government of anti-people policies.

A New President, a Massive Crowd

From the morning hours, Congress workers across the city welcomed the new president with garlands, drums, and fireworks. By evening, this enthusiasm transformed into a fierce protest rally. The turnout was so large that vehicular movement around Manav Mandir Chowk was disrupted for a considerable time.

Presence of Senior Congress Leaders

The demonstration saw the participation of several prominent Congress leaders, including Dongargarh MLA Harshita Baghel, former Mayor Hema Deshmukh, youth leader Rishi Shastri, and numerous senior office-bearers and cadres. Their presence added political weight to Mudliyar’s first major public action as president.

Harsh Accusations Against the Government

The protest was marked by sharp anti-government slogans and visible anger among party workers. Congress leaders alleged that:

Land prices in the state are being deliberately inflated to exploit the public.

The so-called “double-engine” BJP government has failed on every front.

Issues of inflation, unemployment, and farmer distress remain unaddressed.

Addressing the gathering, Jeetu Mudliyar accused the government of serving corporate interests while ignoring public suffering. He warned that if anti-people decisions continue, the Congress will launch protests “from streets to the Assembly”.

A Shift in Leadership, A Shift in Momentum

After two consecutive terms of former president Kulbir Singh Chhabra, the organisational leadership has now shifted to a new face. Political observers note a visible change in tone, aggression, and mobilisation style under Mudliyar’s leadership.

The sheer scale and intensity of the protest — organised within hours of Mudliyar taking charge — suggest that a new chapter has begun for the Rajnandgaon Congress. Local political activity is expected to intensify in the coming days.
