With the aim of strengthening the physical and mental well-being of police personnel, the 28th yoga session organised by the Patanjali Yoga Samiti was held at the Police Training School (PTS), G.E. Road, early on Monday morning. The session began at 6:30 am and witnessed the participation of around 450 police trainees, who learned the ‘Art of Living Through Yoga’ under the teachings inspired by Yoga Guru Baba Ramdev.

The trainers guided participants through the scientific and practical benefits of asana, pranayama and meditation, explaining how these practices are essential for reducing stress, improving concentration, boosting inner strength and maintaining emotional balance. They highlighted that yoga is particularly useful for police personnel who operate in challenging and demanding environments.

Meditation — The Science of Mental Purity and Stillness

In the session, it was explained that meditation purifies the mind much like filtration purifies water.
Key teachings included:

  • Regular meditation increases clarity of thought and naturally reduces mental noise.
  • It develops confidence, compassion and emotional stability.
  • Meditation anchors the mind in the present moment, creating peace and focus.

Pranayama — Breath is Power

Trainees were reminded that breath is the foundation of life and energy.
The session emphasised that:

  • Pranayama energises the body from within, rejuvenating every cell.
  • Slow, deep and rhythmic breathing helps control stress and boosts work efficiency.
  • Shallow and fast breathing shortens life expectancy, whereas slow, deep breathing increases lifespan — a core principle of yoga.

Asanas — Synchronising Body, Mind and Breath

The instructors explained that asanas are more than physical exercises; they harmonise the body, mind and breath.
They shared that:

  • Regular practice enhances flexibility, endurance and discipline.
  • Asanas strengthen immunity and improve the body’s natural resilience.
  • Each posture conveys a message: “Move slowly, stay aware and be grateful to your body.”

Yoga — A Complete Union of Practices

The trainers described yoga as the union of meditation, pranayama and asanas — where:

  • Meditation calms the mind
  • Pranayama stabilises the breath
  • Asanas strengthen the body

Together, they create a balanced, positive and complete individual. Participants were encouraged to dedicate a few minutes each day to yoga, considering it an investment in their overall well-being.

Presence and Conduct of the Programme

The session was attended by PTS Police Captain Shri Gajendra Singh Thakur, TI Shri Bhadoria, and the entire staff.

The programme was conducted by Patanjali Yoga Samiti trainers Hemant Tiwari, Dilip Kumar Ram, Kaushal Sahu, and Dr. Disen Sahu.
