Chhattisgarh is rapidly advancing towards energy self-reliance through the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar–Muft Bijli Yojana, promoting clean and renewable energy while enabling households to become more self-sufficient in the energy sector.
Rajnandgaon district has emerged as an outstanding example of the effective implementation of the scheme. Based on its performance and achievements, the district has secured the fifth position in Chhattisgarh in terms of implementation.
So far, 8,256 applications have been received under the scheme in the district. Rooftop solar power systems have already been installed at the homes of 4,120 beneficiaries, while document verification, installation and other necessary procedures are being expedited in the remaining cases.

A total of 3,205 beneficiaries have so far received the benefit of government subsidies under the scheme. Meanwhile, the electricity bills of 1,155 families have become completely zero.
These families are now using solar energy according to their requirements and achieving significant savings on electricity expenses. Several beneficiaries are also contributing to energy generation by supplying surplus electricity produced by their rooftop solar systems to the grid.
With the objective of ensuring that the benefits of the PM Surya Ghar–Muft Bijli Yojana reach every eligible household, regular PM Surya Sabhas are being organised in Gram Panchayats across all Janpad Panchayats of the district.
During these meetings, citizens are informed about eligibility criteria, the application process, required documents, subsidy provisions and the complete procedure for installing rooftop solar systems. Applications from eligible beneficiaries are also being accepted on the spot.
Under the PM Surya Ghar–Muft Bijli Yojana, eligible beneficiaries are being provided government subsidies in accordance with the prescribed provisions.
