3 kW Rooftop Solar System Brings Zero Electricity Bill and Monthly Savings; Beneficiary Inspires Others

Positive outcomes of the Prime Minister Surya Ghar Free Electricity Scheme are becoming visible across the district. Mr. Praveen Kumar Mishra, a resident of Bajrangpur Navagaon, Ward No. 1 in Rajnandgaon city, has successfully reduced his household electricity expenses to zero under the scheme and has emerged as an inspiration for others.
Solar Installation Eliminates Electricity Expenses
Mr. Mishra informed that his family consists of three members and earlier their monthly electricity bill ranged between ₹900 and ₹1,000, which increased further during the summer season. On January 17, 2026, he installed a 3 kW capacity rooftop solar system at his residence.
Since the installation, his electricity bill has remained completely zero for the past three months.
Under the scheme, he received a total subsidy of ₹1.08 lakh from the Central and State Governments, while the remaining ₹81,000 was invested by him personally. He financed this amount through a bank loan, which he plans to repay within the next three years.
Surplus Power Generation Creating Future Income Opportunity
According to beneficiary Mr. Mishra, his solar system generates approximately 18 to 19 units of electricity daily, whereas his household consumption is around 10 units per day.
As a result, nearly 8 to 9 units of surplus electricity are being supplied back to the grid, which is expected to generate additional income in the future.
Simple and Transparent Application Process
Mr. Mishra stated that he applied for the scheme immediately after receiving information about it. He described the application process as simple and transparent, requiring him to visit the bank only once for document signing, while the remaining formalities were completed smoothly.
Satisfied with the benefits of solar energy, he has already encouraged three of his relatives to install solar rooftop systems, and solar panels are now being installed at their homes as well.
Clean Energy and Environmental Contribution
He emphasized that solar energy is a clean, affordable, and sustainable alternative that not only ensures financial savings but also contributes significantly to environmental conservation.
Expressing gratitude, Mr. Praveen Kumar Mishra termed the Prime Minister Surya Ghar Free Electricity Scheme highly beneficial and public-oriented, and thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai for the initiative.
