The PM Surya Ghar Free Electricity Scheme, launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is proving to be highly beneficial for the common people. Under this scheme, households are installing solar panels on rooftops, freeing themselves from high electricity bills while also generating surplus energy that can be sold back to the grid.

Mr. Anshuman Jha, a resident of Labour Colony in Rajnandgaon, shared his experience. In November 2024, he installed a 3-kilowatt solar panel system on his rooftop at a cost of about ₹1.98 lakh. Out of this, he received a government subsidy of ₹78,000, while the remaining amount was financed through a bank loan at 6% interest.
Before installation, his monthly electricity bill ranged from ₹1,200 to ₹1,500, and during summers it went up to ₹2,500–3,000. Since adopting solar power, his bills have dropped to zero. In addition, he has already deposited surplus electricity worth about ₹3,200 into the grid, which he can use in the future.
Mr. Jha also highlighted that the solar setup has brought consistent electricity supply, eliminating power outage issues. “Now there are no disruptions in studies, and all household appliances run smoothly. We sleep peacefully without worrying about power cuts,” he said.

He further noted that the state government has recently announced an additional subsidy of ₹15,000 to ₹30,000, doubling the benefits for consumers. Calling the scheme both economically viable and environmentally crucial, he expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai. He also urged fellow citizens to join the movement of transforming from electricity consumers to energy providers through this scheme.
