The Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV) has opened its online application portal for Class 6 admissions for the academic session 2026–27. In a student-friendly decision, the Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS) has announced that applicants will no longer be required to upload a caste certificate during the online application process.

This move is expected to reduce procedural hurdles and encourage more students to apply, especially those from rural and underprivileged backgrounds who often face difficulties in obtaining documentation. However, NVS has clarified that while the caste certificate is not needed at the time of form submission, it will be mandatory at the time of admission for reserved category candidates.

The entrance examination will be conducted across 9 development blocks of Rajnandgaon, Khairagarh-Chhuikhadan-Gandai, and Mohla-Manpur-Ambagarh Chowki districts.

Despite the relaxation in requirements, application numbers are currently low. As of now, only 9,959 forms have been submitted, compared to 21,067 applications received last year. Education officials have attributed the slowdown to a lack of awareness and have called for more active participation from local communities.

Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas are fully residential, free-of-cost schools operated by the Ministry of Education, Government of India. These CBSE-affiliated institutions are known for delivering high-quality education and have produced alumni who are now serving in prestigious roles in India and abroad.

The school administration has appealed to parents, teachers, and education department personnel to encourage eligible students to apply on time. With the caste certificate no longer a hurdle, the application process has become more accessible.

The last date to apply online is July 29, 2025.
