National Institute of Technology (NIT) Raipur, reverberated with patriotic fervor and intellectual vigor as it celebrated the 134th Birth Anniversary of Bharat Ratna Babasaheb Dr. B. R. Ambedkar. The commemorative event, held on 14th April 2025, was a testament to the enduring legacy of the visionary leader and the values he espoused.
The event was graced by the presence of distinguished dignitaries, including the Chief Guest, Mr. Mahadev Kavre , IAS, Divisional Commissioner, Raipur (C.G.) , Dr. N. V. Ramana Rao , Director , NIT Raipur , Dr. N.D. Londhe, Registrar, NIT Raipur, Dr. Manoj Kumar Chopkar , Dean (Student Welfare) , Dr. Shrish Verma , Dean ( Academics) , Dr. G. D. Ramtekkar , Dean ( P&D) ,Dr. M. Atulkar , Professor , Department of Computer Application and other esteemed faculty members and students .

The program commenced with the soul-stirring rendition of the National Song, “Vande Mataram,” followed by the dignitaries paying homage to Babasaheb by lighting candles and offering garlands on his photograph. One of the highlights of the event was the collective reading of the Preamble by all attendees, under the leadership of Dr. N.V. Ramana Rao , symbolizing a reaffirmation of the principles enshrined in the Constitution, a document dear to Dr. Ambedkar’s heart. A poignant documentary shedding light on the life and contributions of Ambedkar Saheb was also screened, providing insights into his remarkable journey.

Dr. Mithlesh Atulkar, in his inaugural speech, highlighted the power of education in uplifting the deprived, echoing Babasaheb’s words: “I measure the progress of a community by the degree of progress which women have achieved.” He stated that the statue of Babasaheb stood as a symbol of his transformative vision in the field of education.

Dr. N. D. Londhe, Registrar, emphasized that education is not just a medium but the ultimate goal, stating that it leads individuals from ignorance to knowledge and has inspired millions to empower themselves. As a true advocate of the Constitution’s spirit, he remarked that Babasaheb always highlighted his unwavering support for education.

In his presidential address, Dr. N. V. Ramana Rao described Dr. B. R. Ambedkar as a visionary jurist, economist, and the ‘Chief Architect’ of The Indian Constitution, whose academic brilliance continues to inspire millions . With a PhD from Columbia University and a DSc from London School of Economics, he championed the rights of women, laborers, and the marginalized through various movements and initiatives . Quoting his iconic words, “Educate, Agitate, Organise” and “Liberty, Equality, Fraternity”, Dr. N.V. Ramana Rao emphasized Babasaheb’s enduring influence on India’s democratic values.

The event also witnessed an address by the Chief Guest , Mr. Mahadev Kavre, who exemplifies the transformative power of education and determination. Originating from the remote village of Bijapur in Bastar, he overcame numerous challenges to pursue higher education—starting from Bastar High School to earning a B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering from Government Engineering College (GEC), Jagdalpur and an MTech from IIT Delhi through GATE. Deeply influenced by Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s vision, Kavre believes that “Cultivation of mind should be the ultimate aim of human existence.” He actively promotes rational thinking, the eradication of superstitions, and the importance of purpose-driven living. Echoing Babasaheb’s belief that “The Constitution is not a mere document; it is a living instrument that reflects the aspirations of the people,” he urges every citizen to read and understand the Constitution.

Dr. Suraj Kumar Mukti expressed gratitude through a heartfelt vote of thanks, acknowledging the contributions of all those involved in organizing the event. The program culminated with a rendition of the national anthem, “Jana Gana Mana,” stirring emotions of patriotism and pride.

The organizing committee including , Dr. Suraj Kumar Mukti, Dr. Baidyanath Bag, Dr. D.C. Jhariya, Dr Sanjay Kumar, Dr. Nisha Netam, Dr. C. Jatoth, Dr. Shruti Nagdeve, Sukeshni tirkey, Shri Teman Thakur, Shri A.K. Dongare, Shri Samud Goyal and others, received accolades for their meticulous planning and execution, ensuring a memorable and impactful event.

As the echoes of celebration fade away, the spirit of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar continues to inspire and guide generations toward a more equitable and just society, echoing his timeless message of liberty, equality, and fraternity.
