The 108 Sanjeevani Express emergency medical service once again proved to be a lifesaving support for a pregnant woman and her newborn after a safe delivery was conducted inside the ambulance while the patient was being transported to hospital.
Both the mother and the newborn are reported to be in good health.
According to information received, Sudarshan Yadav, a resident of Khajri village, admitted his wife Radhika Yadav to the Ghumka Community Health Centre at around 7:30 p.m. after she went into labour. As her condition rapidly progressed and labour pains intensified, doctors at the health centre assessed the situation and referred her to Rajnandgaon Medical College Hospital for advanced medical care.
Radhika Yadav was immediately shifted to the 108 Sanjeevani Express for transportation to the Medical College Hospital. However, while the ambulance was passing near Doomardih village, her labour pain became severe, indicating that delivery was imminent.
Recognising the urgency of the situation, Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Lalita Baghel acted swiftly and instructed ambulance pilot Chhagan Sahu to stop the vehicle safely by the roadside.

Displaying remarkable presence of mind and applying their medical training, EMT Lalita Baghel and pilot Chhagan Sahu decided to conduct the delivery inside the ambulance. Their prompt and coordinated efforts resulted in the safe birth of a healthy baby girl.
Following the successful delivery, both the mother and child remained stable, bringing immense relief to the family and the ambulance staff.
Expressing gratitude after the incident, the Mitanin, newborn’s father Sudarshan Yadav, and other family members thanked the 108 Sanjeevani Express team for their prompt response, professionalism and compassionate service.
The family said that had the ambulance staff not acted with such presence of mind at the critical moment, the situation could have taken a serious turn.
