In a landmark development for passengers across Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, the Indian Railways is all set to launch a new Intercity Express train between Jabalpur and Raipur, starting August 3. The train, running via Nainpur, Balaghat, Gondia, and Rajnandgaon, has been made possible through the persistent efforts of Rajnandgaon MP Santosh Pandey, who has been advocating for this direct rail connectivity for the past three years.

Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw is scheduled to flag off the inaugural run of the Intercity train from Jabalpur on Sunday, August 3. As per the schedule, the train will reach Dongargarh station at 5:15 PM and Rajnandgaon station at 5:45 PM the same day.

The long-awaited route is a major step forward in easing travel for thousands of people — especially women — who frequently journey between Jabalpur, Balaghat, Rajnandgaon, Durg, and Raipur for familial and marital reasons. Until now, passengers had to either travel by road or change trains multiple times to reach their destinations. The new direct train is expected to significantly reduce travel time and offer a safer, more convenient journey.

Speaking about the development, MP Santosh Pandey said, “This train is a long-standing demand of the people. Many daughters and families are connected between Jabalpur and Rajnandgaon-Durg-Raipur through marriage. With no direct train so far, travel was challenging. This new train is not just a convenience; it is a symbolic Raksha Bandhan gift to sisters across both states from Prime Minister Modi and Railway Minister Vaishnaw.”

The event marks a significant milestone for rail connectivity in the region, further boosting socio-economic ties between the tribal belts of Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. MP Pandey also appealed to citizens of Rajnandgaon and Dongargarh to gather in large numbers at their respective stations on August 3 to welcome the train and celebrate this achievement.

With this new addition, Indian Railways continues to expand its network to improve regional mobility, accessibility, and inclusivity for passengers in remote and underserved areas.
