In a significant stride toward enhancing sports infrastructure, Rajnandgaon—fondly known as Sanskardhani—is poised to receive its first-ever synthetic athletics track. The initiative, driven by the persistent efforts of Chhattisgarh Assembly Speaker and local MLA Dr. Raman Singh, marks a major milestone in the city’s sporting journey.

The synthetic track, to be developed at a cost of several crores, has received formal approval from the state government under the central government’s Khelo India scheme. This development is expected to revolutionize athletics training and competition in the region.

On Sunday, Mayor Mr. Madhusudan Yadav, accompanied by Municipal Commissioner Mr. Atul Vishwakarma, State Vice President and District Secretary of the Athletics Association Mr. Ranvijay Pratap Singh, Municipal President Mr. Topendra Singh Paras Verma, and other civic and departmental officials, visited the proposed site behind the Nagar Sena office at Dhaba to inspect the government land allocated for the project.

Speaking to the media, Mayor Yadav highlighted the achievements of Rajnandgaon’s athletes at both national and international levels. He recalled that during Dr. Raman Singh’s tenure as Chief Minister, the city saw the renovation of the Astroturf hockey ground and the stadium, which significantly boosted the sports ecosystem. The approval for the athletics track, he noted, was secured following Dr. Singh’s recent discussions with Union Sports Minister Mr. Mansukh Mandaviya.

Municipal Commissioner Mr. Vishwakarma stated that approximately 10 acres of land will be required for the synthetic track. Following site finalization, the design will be developed with support from technical experts and architects, adhering to athlete-centric and international standards.

Mr. Ranvijay Pratap Singh, Vice President of the State Athletics Association, mentioned that an earlier proposal had aimed to build the track at Digvijay Stadium. However, due to space constraints and existing sports activities there, a new location is now being finalized.

Mayor Yadav expressed confidence that the new facility will provide athletes from Rajnandgaon with world-class training opportunities, ultimately helping them bring glory to both the state and the nation.
