Women in vibrant traditional attire showcased talent in competitions; winners felicitated in a celebration of nature and heritage

Against the lush backdrop of the monsoon season, the Sawan Sundari Mahotsav was celebrated in the Police Lines campus with a vibrant display of tradition, music, and community spirit. Women dressed in colourful traditional attire danced to folk songs dedicated to the season of Sawan, enchanting the audience with their performances.

The festival featured an array of cultural events, including decoration contests based on the Sawan theme, poetry recitations, storytelling sessions, music performances, and other artistic showcases.
Festival convenor Dr. Tejmala Deshmukh said that the annual celebration aims to not only uphold cultural traditions but also promote environmental awareness. “Through this festival, we preserve our culture while also understanding our responsibility towards the environment,” she noted.
Participants brought the essence of Sawan alive through traditional songs and attire, earning applause from the gathered crowd. Winners of the competitions were honoured on stage in recognition of their talent and creativity.

The event’s success was attributed to the dedicated efforts of the women of the Police Lines community, including Poornima Sahu, Jamuna Sahu, Sheela Dahariya, Kanchan Taram, Lalita Salame, Khemlata Sahu, Shyama Deshmukh, Ranjana Sahu, Taruna Nirmalkar, Jyoti Thakur, Pammi Deshmukh, and Himanshi Deshmukh, among many others.
With its blend of monsoon joy, the sweetness of folk melodies, and the message of greenery, the festival emerged as a symbol of the unique harmony between womanhood and nature.
