Rajnandgaon police have achieved a significant success in their ongoing campaign against illegal liquor trafficking, with Tumdibod Police Outpost and Lalbagh Police Station arresting an absconding accused involved in a major smuggling case. The accused, identified as Arvind Sahu, a resident of Bhilai in Durg district, was arrested on January 23 and sent to judicial remand.

The action follows clear directives issued by Superintendent of Police Ms Ankita Sharma (IPS), who instructed all units to maintain zero tolerance against illegal liquor sale and transportation. The operation was conducted under the guidance of Additional Superintendent of Police Kirtan Rathore and Pushpendra Nayak, City Superintendents of Police Vaishali Jain (IPS) and Alexander Kiro, and was led by Inspector Dilip Patel, In-charge of Tumdibod Police Outpost.

Highway Interception Leads to Major Seizure

According to police officials, on January 18, 2026, Tumdibod police received specific intelligence regarding illegal liquor being transported through a suspicious vehicle. Acting promptly, a joint team of Tumdibod police and the Cyber Cell was formed and a blockade was set up near village Kohka on the National Highway.

During the operation, police intercepted an Ertiga car bearing registration number CG 08 BC 5628. Upon inspection, the team recovered 16 cartons of Madhya Pradesh-manufactured foreign liquor, amounting to 147 bulk litres, along with a mobile phone used in the operation. The total value of the seized items was estimated at ₹12,22,096.

Following the seizure, a case was registered at Tumdibod Outpost under Lalbagh Police Station as Crime No. 33/2026 under Section 34(2) of the Excise Act. While one accused had initially evaded arrest, sustained efforts by the police led to the successful arrest of Arvind Sahu on January 23.
