The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has intensified its outreach to promote the Viksit Bharat Guarantee for Rural Employment and Livelihood Mission (VB-G Ramji), with a district-level workshop organised on Friday at Tumdibod. The one-day programme brought together party office-bearers, workers, and members of outreach teams tasked with carrying the scheme’s message to villages across the district.

Addressing the workshop, Divisional In-charge and State BJP Vice President Jagannath Panigrahi launched a sharp attack on the Congress, alleging that the party is opposing the new rural employment mission under the guise of Mahatma Gandhi’s legacy. He said the Congress has consistently misused Gandhi’s name while resisting reforms aimed at strengthening rural India.

Panigrahi described the VB-G Ramji scheme as an advanced and restructured form of MGNREGA, introduced under the Viksit Bharat Guarantee for Employment and Livelihood Mission (Rural) Act, 2025. He said the scheme is aligned with Mahatma Gandhi’s vision of self-reliant, poverty-free, and employment-oriented villages, and will play a key role in achieving the goal of a developed India by 2047.

“The Congress is uncomfortable with the word ‘Ramji’. That is the real reason behind its opposition,” Panigrahi said, adding that the party has historically resisted initiatives associated with Lord Ram. He accused the Congress of spreading misinformation as it finds it difficult to oppose the scheme on its merits, given its expanded scope and strong provisions for rural upliftment.

Panigrahi urged BJP workers to counter what he termed Congress’s misinformation campaign and ensure that the benefits of the scheme reach eligible beneficiaries at the grassroots level. He said mandal-level workshops and village chaupals will be organised to directly connect with rural households.

The workshop was also addressed by District BJP President Komal Singh Rajput, who said villages are the backbone of India and strengthening rural communities is essential for national development. He highlighted that the new scheme guarantees up to 125 days of employment, compared to 100 days under MGNREGA, and is aimed at empowering farmers and rural labourers.

Member of Parliament Santosh Pandey, while addressing the gathering, accused the Congress of repeatedly opposing initiatives linked to Lord Ram. He cited past instances, including opposition to the Ram Temple and Ram Setu, and alleged that the party is now following the same pattern by resisting the VB-G Ramji Bill. Pandey said the scheme will curb corruption associated with earlier rural employment programmes and pave the way for sustainable rural development.

The programme was also addressed by workshop convenor Dinesh Gandhi and District Panchayat President Kiran Ravindra Vaishnav. Several senior BJP leaders and office-bearers, including District Cooperative Bank Chairman Sachin Baghel, State BJP Vice President Ramji Bharti, former MLA Vinod Khandekar, and district party officials, were present at the event.
