Knife Attack at Manav Mandir Chowk: Police Nab Accused Within 15 Minutes in Swift Operation

Rapid response by Rajnandgaon police saves victim; accused with criminal past arrested minutes after the late-night attack.

A sensational knife attack late Tuesday night created panic at Manav Mandir Chowk under Kotwali police station limits. Around 11:05 pm, accused Mahfooz Khan allegedly assaulted Anup Yadav with a sharp-edged weapon following a dispute linked to previous enmity.

The incident triggered an immediate police response. Additional SP Rahul Dev Sharma, who was near Nandai Chowk during a combing patrol, rushed to the spot with his team and arrived within seven minutes, showcasing the department’s prompt action and preparedness.

The injured Anup Yadav was quickly shifted to the Medical College by the police team, where a team of five doctors began treatment in police presence. His condition was later declared stable, and he was referred to Raipur for advanced medical care.

Thanks to swift policing, the accused Mahfooz Khan was apprehended within 15–20 minutes of the attack. Initial investigation revealed that the accused had a prior criminal history. Records also show that the victim, Anup Yadav, has over five criminal cases registered against him.

Interrogation of the accused is underway, and further legal action is being initiated. Considering the seriousness of the incident, Superintendent of Police Ankita Sharma reached Manav Mandir Chowk around midnight, inspected the spot, and issued necessary instructions to the officers.

According to the police:
➡ The accused will be produced for judicial remand today.
➡ The case will be taken up in a fast-track court to ensure strict and timely punishment.
