In an inspiring community-driven initiative for water conservation, a Jal Kalash Yatra was organized in Kirgi village of Dongargaon Janpad Panchayat, led by renowned social activist and Padma Shri awardee Phoolbasan Yadav. The event was part of the ongoing awareness campaign titled “Neer aur Naari Jal Yatra”, highlighting the vital role of women and community in sustainable water management.
The yatra aimed to sensitize rural residents about the importance of preserving water resources, especially in the wake of Rajnandgaon district being declared a semi-critical zone in terms of groundwater availability. Addressing the gathering, Phoolbasan Yadav emphasized that the responsibility of conserving nature lies with humanity, and urgent collective action is needed to prevent future drinking water crises.
“Water is not just a necessity—it is life itself. And if we don’t act now, our tomorrow could be at risk,” she stated, encouraging villagers to adopt sustainable water practices and consider the needs of all living beings affected by water scarcity.
The event witnessed the enthusiastic participation of villagers and public representatives, including Janpad Panchayat Vice President Manish Kumar Sahu, Member Umesh Sahu, Sarpanch Indrani Sahu, and many local panch members. The Kalash Yatra served both as a symbolic and practical reminder of the power of collective awareness and action.
