In a dramatic twist, a tech vigilante has exposed an alleged cybercriminal, Manish Kumar, accused of scamming thousands of innocent people from his bedroom in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh. The revelation came when a hacker, known for tracking scammers, infiltrated Kumar’s laptop, activated his webcam, and captured his panicked reaction as he scrambled to block the camera with his hand.
Kumar’s operation, described as a “classic tech support scam,” involved posing as a representative of Anti-Virus Guard (AVG) support. He allegedly used fake Google ads to lure victims, tricking them into granting remote access to their devices via tools like AnyDesk or TeamViewer. Once connected, Kumar would fabricate issues with victims’ computers, charging exorbitant fees for unnecessary “support” services. The scam, which reportedly defrauded thousands, primarily targeted vulnerable individuals, including the elderly, across multiple countries.

The hacker, who goes by the alias NanoBaiter, shared details of the sting operation, claiming to have matched photos from Kumar’s computer with the face seen on the live webcam feed, confirming his identity. “This is Manish Kumar, running tech support scams straight out of his bedroom,” NanoBaiter stated, urging authorities to take action. The operation was exposed on August 28, 2025, sparking widespread attention and calls for justice.
Local residents in Ghaziabad were stunned to learn of the scam operating in their midst, with one noting that Kumar’s apartment is located in a busy residential area. The incident has highlighted the growing menace of cybercrime in India, where cheap internet access and preactivated SIM cards have fueled sophisticated scams. According to reports, India has seen an estimated ₹10,300 crore siphoned off by cybercriminals since April 2021, with tech support scams being a significant contributor.

The Ghaziabad Police have been alerted, and investigations are underway to verify the claims and apprehend Kumar. Cybersecurity experts are urging the public to remain vigilant, advising against granting remote access to unknown parties and verifying the authenticity of tech support services. The exposure of Kumar’s operation serves as a stark reminder of the need for stronger cybercrime enforcement and public awareness to combat such frauds.
As authorities close in, this bold hack has not only unmasked a scammer but also ignited a broader conversation about the fight against cybercrime, with one hacker turning the tables on a fraudster in his own bedroom.
