A wave of resentment is brewing among farmers in the Dongargaon region after Zila Panchayat member and District Congress Committee (Rural) General Secretary Mahendra Yadav accused Collector Jitendra Yadav of issuing oral instructions to reduce paddy procurement.

In a press release, Mahendra Yadav strongly objected to what he described as arbitrary and unjust directions by the district administration. According to him, the Collector has allegedly instructed society managers to purchase only 15 to 17 quintals of paddy per acre based on unverifiable reports (Anawari), resulting in panic at procurement centres.

Fury Among Farmers Over Reduced Paddy Procurement in Dongargaon: Zila Panchayat Member Mahendra Yadav Accuses Collector agriculture

Yadav alleged that under the BJP government, farmers are repeatedly being harassed through “repressive orders.” He claimed that during the previous Congress government, the full produce of farmers was purchased without discrimination, but the present administration has put farmers under double pressure—first through fertilizer and seed shortages and now through reduced procurement limits.

Raising serious concerns, he questioned how the administration plans to deal with farmers whose yield ranges from 25 to 30 quintals per acre. Citing an example, he said that a farmer owning 2.31 acres produced 48 quintals of paddy, but the procurement centre purchased only 40 quintals, returning the rest.

Mahendra Yadav warned that if the administration fails to ensure procurement of the farmers’ full produce, he will be compelled to lead a mass agitation along with the affected farmers.
