The journey from darkness to light symbolizes a transition from despair, struggle, and hardship toward hope, success, and knowledge. It is a path made possible through strong determination and proper guidance. The life story of 22-year-old Arvind Hemla stands as a powerful example of how resilience and timely intervention can transform a person’s destiny.
A Childhood Marked by Hardship
Arvind Hemla was born into a modest rural family in Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh. From an early age, he faced severe economic hardship, lack of education, and multiple social challenges. His family depended on agricultural labour for livelihood, making it difficult even to meet daily necessities.
A major turning point came when tragedy struck early in his life. He lost his father in 2009 and his mother in 2016, leaving him completely alone and vulnerable at a young age. The loss of parental support deeply affected his emotional and social stability.
Drawn Toward the Wrong Path
During his youth, due to adverse regional conditions, economic compulsions, and negative influences, Arvind was drawn toward Naxal activities. Gradually, he became entangled in this path, which severely impacted his social and personal life.
However, with time, he realized that violence could only lead to fear and an uncertain future. Determined to change his life, Arvind made a courageous decision to abandon the path of extremism. Inspired by the state government’s Surrender and Rehabilitation Policy, he voluntarily surrendered in March 2025.
Rehabilitation and Skill Development

Following his surrender, the government provided him guidance, support, and skill development training at the Rehabilitation Centre in Bijapur. He received professional training in masonry work, gaining technical expertise in construction activities.
Today, Arvind Hemla is working as a construction labourer in Mancherial district of Telangana, earning a daily wage of ₹600. Through dedication and hard work, he has achieved self-reliance and successfully reintegrated into mainstream society.
A Message of Hope and Reintegration
The state government’s rehabilitation policy aims to help former extremists abandon violence, reconnect with society, and rebuild dignified lives. Arvind’s journey demonstrates that regardless of how difficult circumstances may be, the right decision, strong determination, and continuous effort can lead to meaningful transformation.
His story stands as an inspiring reminder that change is always possible when opportunity meets courage.
