Special Health Camps Under PM Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan and Cervical Cancer Prevention Initiative Gain Momentum in the District

With an aim to strengthen maternal and child healthcare services, the Health Department in Rajnandgaon district has launched two major initiatives simultaneously — free medical screening and sonography for high-risk pregnant women and the rollout of an HPV vaccination campaign for adolescent girls.
Special Camps for High-Risk Pregnant Women
Under the Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan, special health camps are being organized on the 9th and 24th of every month. These camps provide free medical examination, treatment, counseling, and diagnostic services to pregnant women identified as high-risk cases.
Priority is being given to women who have previously undergone cesarean deliveries, experienced miscarriages or stillbirths, early-age pregnancies, severe anemia, hypertension, diabetes, or other medical complications.
As per the directives of Collector Jitendra Yadav, a total of 1,629 high-risk pregnant women have been identified across the district. Among them, 1,493 women have completed their first sonography examination, while 1,144 have undergone the second round of screening. In the past week alone, 28 women received medical evaluation under the program.
To ensure continuous monitoring, Mitanin health workers are conducting door-to-door visits and maintaining regular follow-up care before delivery.
HPV Vaccination Campaign to Prevent Cervical Cancer
Alongside maternal health initiatives, the district has also begun an HPV vaccination drive aimed at preventing cervical cancer. Vaccination is being administered daily at the District Hospital and all Community Health Centres.
So far, 64 adolescent girls have received the HPV vaccine under the campaign.
Chief Medical and Health Officer Dr. Netaram Navratna stated that the HPV vaccine is safe and effective for girls up to 14 years of age and has no significant side effects. After vaccination, only 30 minutes of medical observation is required as a precautionary measure.
Beneficiaries can avail themselves of free vaccination by completing online registration or registering at the District Hospital using their Aadhaar card.
Public Appeal for Community Participation
The Health Department has appealed to citizens to actively participate in these initiatives to ensure safer motherhood and improved child health outcomes across the district.
