Continuing its aggressive crackdown against IPL betting activities, Rajnandgaon Police has busted a high-tech online betting racket operating under the Basantpur police station limits. The latest action comes just a day after authorities seized betting records worth nearly ₹22 lakh in a separate operation.
Joint Police and Cyber Cell Operation
Acting on specific inputs, a joint team of the Cyber Cell and Basantpur Police conducted a raid near Mohara Nala, leading to the arrest of five accused involved in online IPL betting operations.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Veeru Prajapati (24), Rupesh Pandey (43), Ayush Meshram (24), Mohit Dewangan (23), and Lucky Dewangan alias Narendra Dewangan (32). Two other accused — Mulchand Dewangan and Sadiq Khan from Nagpur — are currently absconding, and police teams are searching for them.

High-Tech Setup Used for Online Betting
During the raid, police recovered two laptops, one tablet, seven mobile phones, and a motorcycle, along with equipment valued at approximately ₹5.50 lakh. Investigation revealed betting accounts worth around ₹9.20 lakh maintained in betting records.
Police officials stated that the accused were operating through a digital platform known as the “Sai App,” allowing betting on every ball and over during IPL matches. The entire transaction system was reportedly managed using coded language to conceal financial records and communication.
Operation Conducted Under Senior Supervision
The operation was carried out under the direction of Superintendent of Police Ankita Sharma. The action was supervised by Additional Superintendent of Police Kirtan Rathore, City Superintendent of Police Vaishali Jain, and Alexander Kiro.
Key contributions came from the Cyber Cell team, including Inspector Vinay Parmar, Sub-Inspector Naresh Banjare, and personnel Manish Verma, Jeevan Thakur, Harish Thakur, Dhiraj Dadsena, and Mohan Sahu. From Basantpur Police Station, Inspector Eman Sahu, Sub-Inspector Naresh Sarva, MPR Menaka Sahu, and constables Rupendra Verma, Rajesh Bandeshwar, and Ashish Manikpuri played significant roles in the successful operation.
Legal Action Initiated
Police have registered a case against the accused under provisions of the Chhattisgarh Gambling Prohibition Act, Sections 318(4) and 112 (organized crime) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and Section 66(D) of the Information Technology Act. All arrested individuals have been sent to judicial remand.
With consecutive operations conducted over two days, Rajnandgaon Police has signaled a strong and sustained campaign against betting networks, targeting both traditional and technologically advanced gambling operations.
