Initiative aims to strengthen foundational literacy and numeracy under NEP 2020; students, teachers, and parents participate in large numbers

In a significant push toward strengthening early-grade learning, all 771 primary schools across Rajnandgaon district organised the Foundational Literacy and Numeracy (FLN) Fair under the guidance of Collector Jitendra Yadav. The initiative aims to build strong foundational skills in language and mathematics among children and make early education more engaging through games and interactive activities.
The FLN Fair is a key component of the NIPUN Bharat Mission, launched under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. The mission’s core objective is to ensure that every child attains basic literacy and numeracy skills by the end of Grade 3. The fairs witnessed enthusiastic participation from teachers, students, and parents, reflecting the growing community engagement in strengthening foundational education.
Designed primarily for students of Class 1 to Class 3, the FLN Fair featured a variety of activities aimed at improving reading, writing, and mathematical understanding. The major highlights included:
- Interactive sessions to make learning fun and practical
- Activity-based mathematical and language skill development
- Active involvement of students, teachers, and parents
- Focus on improving measurable learning outcomes

To assess implementation quality, the district team visited several schools, including Primary School Arjuni, PM Shri Sajes Rajnandgaon, Primary School Tumdibod, and Primary School Temri. During these visits, officials interacted with students and teachers to observe learning activities and assess progress.
District Mission Coordinator Satish Byohare, APC P.R. Jhade, APC Adarsh Vasanik, Language Expert Poonam Patel, and Mathematics Expert Sushmita Thakur were present during the review visits and provided guidance on strengthening FLN practices further.
The FLN Fair has been widely appreciated as an innovative step toward making foundational learning enjoyable, inclusive, and outcome-oriented in Rajnandgaon.
