Illegal sand mining activities have once again intensified in the Dongargaon region, triggering a strong administrative crackdown. Acting on a complaint received by Assistant Mining Officer Bharat Lal Banjare, the district’s mineral department launched a joint operation after confirming that large-scale illegal sand excavation was underway.

According to official sources, discussions regarding these illegal activities had even surfaced during recent revenue meetings. The region has long been embroiled in disputes over sand mining, with allegations of political patronage and names of influential leaders often coming up in local conversations. For years, the issue has remained a sensitive and recurring challenge for authorities.

Major Seizure on the Highway

During the operation, the team intercepted and seized a truck bearing registration number CG 08 AX 7564, reportedly owned by Mukesh Lodha of Dongargaon. The vehicle was found transporting illegally mined sand. Officials detained the truck and initiated further investigation into its source and intended destination.

Earlier on Saturday morning, the local Tehsildar had also seized a tractor carrying illegally mined sand, signalling an escalation in enforcement efforts. These consecutive actions have put considerable pressure on the informal rural mining network.

Another Tractor Caught in Bansi Banjari Village

On Thursday, the joint mining team conducted another raid in Bansi Banjari village, where a brand-new Sonalika tractor was seized. The vehicle was registered in the name of Piyush Sahu, son of Sujeel Sahu, a resident of Pangri Kala. The action was taken based on repeated complaints from villagers.

Sand Mafia Revive Their Network — Administration Responds Aggressively

Local residents claim that sand mafias have become active once again, and the old practice of hoarding sand has begun to reappear. However, this time the administration is also in an aggressive mode, leading to what locals describe as a “snake-and-mongoose battle” between the illegal mining network and enforcement authorities.

With continuous monitoring and swift operations, the district administration aims to curb the illegal sand trade before it escalates further.
