District Collector Dr. Sarveshwar Narendra Bhure paid a surprise visit to the Plug-Type Vegetable Seedling Unit at the Government Nursery in Pendri on Friday. During the inspection, he instructed officials to expedite the ongoing repair work and ensure the unit is made operational at the earliest.
Dr. Bhure emphasized that once functional, the unit will provide farmers with seedlings of various vegetable varieties at affordable prices, significantly reducing their cultivation costs and enhancing productivity. The facility, equipped with a germination chamber and a hardening chamber, is undergoing phased restoration. While the germination chamber has already been repaired, work on the hardening chamber is currently in progress.

The unit was originally established to supply high-quality seedlings but suffered extensive damage during a cyclonic storm in 2022. To revive operations, the Horticulture Department allocated ₹32 lakh, while an additional ₹19 lakh was sanctioned under the DMF (District Mineral Foundation) fund, bringing the total repair cost to ₹51 lakh.

The Collector reiterated the importance of the facility in supporting vegetable growers across the district, calling it a vital resource for ensuring access to quality planting material.
The inspection was attended by Assistant Director of Horticulture Mr. Rajesh Sharma, Senior Horticulture Officer Mr. Ravindra Mehra, and other departmental officials.
