Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai on Thursday underscored the glorious and resilient history of the tribal community in India and Chhattisgarh, stating that the state government is committed to honouring tribal heroes and accelerating development in tribal-dominated regions.
The Chief Minister was addressing a large gathering at Ghodalwahi village in Chhuria block, Rajnandgaon district, during the Shakti Diwas programme organised by the All India Halba-Halbi Tribal Society. The event also marked the unveiling of the statue of martyr Shiromani Gaindsingh Nayak, the 150th birth anniversary celebrations of Bhagwan Birsa Munda, and the inauguration of multiple development works.

CM Sai unveiled the statue of martyr Gaindsingh Nayak and inaugurated a newly constructed Higher Secondary School building built at a cost of ₹1.21 crore, along with a 50-seater pre-matric hostel constructed at a cost of ₹1.52 crore. Assembly Speaker Dr Raman Singh was present as a special guest on the occasion.
During his address, the Chief Minister announced the widening of roads connecting Ghodalwahi to Umarwahi and Umarwahi to Karmari, establishment of a new college in Ghodalwahi, construction of a boundary wall in the school premises, and the building of an Atal Samrasta Bhavan. He also distributed property ownership cards under the SVAMITVA Yojana and LPG connections to women beneficiaries under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana.

Speaking on the occasion, CM Sai paid tributes to martyr Gaindsingh Nayak and said the tribal community has a rich and proud history of resistance and sacrifice. He noted that the state government, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is working to give due recognition to tribal freedom fighters and revolutionaries.
Referring to the recently inaugurated digital museum in Raipur, the Chief Minister said it showcases the lives and struggles of tribal icons such as Rani Durgavati, Veer Narayan Singh, Gundadhur and Gaindsingh Nayak, along with depictions of 14 major tribal uprisings against British rule. He urged people to visit the museum to learn about India’s freedom movement and tribal contributions.
The Chief Minister highlighted that India’s President, Smt Droupadi Murmu, belongs to the tribal community, reflecting growing national recognition of tribal leadership. He recalled that former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee created Chhattisgarh to ensure focused development of tribal regions and strengthened welfare initiatives for indigenous communities.

CM Sai outlined major welfare measures being implemented by the state government, including approval of 18 lakh houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, monthly financial assistance of ₹1,000 to 70 lakh women under the Mahtari Vandan Yojana, payment of ₹3,716 crore as pending bonus to farmers, and enhanced tendu leaf collection rates benefiting over 13 lakh families.
He also spoke about accelerated development in Maoist-affected areas due to coordinated efforts of the double-engine government, noting that over 2,000 Maoists have surrendered in recent years. He cited initiatives such as Niyad Nellanar and Bastar Olympics as symbols of peace, rehabilitation and inclusive growth.
Assembly Speaker Dr Raman Singh termed the occasion historic and said the ideals of martyr Gaindsingh Nayak are being realised through efforts to build a self-reliant and exploitation-free tribal society. He praised the Chief Minister’s governance, citing rapid infrastructure growth, farmer welfare schemes and women empowerment initiatives.
