Members of the Maa Bamleshwari Vendors’ Association, representing local ration shopkeepers in Dongargarh, held a meeting today with Chhattisgarh’s Food Minister Dayaldas Baghel to present a detailed charter of demands aimed at addressing long-standing challenges faced by public distribution system (PDS) vendors.

The delegation, led by Association President Kranti Namdev, voiced concerns over low commission rates, delayed payments, and inadequate financial support for ration dealers. At present, Chhattisgarh government provides a commission of only ₹30 per quintal on food grains — significantly lower than the Centre’s ₹100 per quintal rate. The association has urged the state to raise the rate to match the central government’s standard.

Another major demand included timely procurement and payment for empty gunny bags (baradana), with a clear schedule for disbursement. The association also requested that the current financial support, which is limited to 150 quintals of allocation, be extended to all dealers handling more than this quota.

In addition, the delegation sought an increase in the commission on sugar distribution from ₹5 per quintal to ₹10 per quintal, pointing out that the present rate was insufficient to meet operational costs.

“We respectfully request the Minister to take urgent action on these issues and provide relief to ration dealers across Chhattisgarh,” said Association President Kranti Namdev during the meeting.
