The transfer of a government officer is a routine part of administration. Officers arrive, discharge their responsibilities and move on to new assignments. However, some leave such a lasting impression that even ordinary citizens become emotional when they depart. A similar response has been witnessed in Madhya Pradesh’s Balaghat district following the transfer of IPS officer Aditya Mishra.
In the administrative reshuffle announced on October 27, 2026, 2018-batch IPS officer Aditya Mishra was transferred from the post of Balaghat Superintendent of Police (SP) and appointed SP of Dewas.
Soon after news of his transfer emerged, emotional reactions began pouring in from Balaghat residents. Videos and photographs from his farewell ceremony, along with messages wishing him well, were widely shared on social media.
Live coverage of his farewell ceremony on October 28 was also circulated online. Residents praised his tenure, shared memories and extended their best wishes for his new responsibility.
46 Police Stations and Outposts Turned into Community Service Centres
One of the notable initiatives associated with Mishra’s policing approach was the concept of the ‘Single Window Facilitation Centre’.

Under this initiative, 46 police stations, police outposts and security camps in Naxal-affected areas were proposed to be developed as community service centres.
Through these centres, efforts were made to help villagers access government services, including income, caste and residence certificates, applications related to land and forest rights, and Ayushman cards.
Health camps and employment fairs were also organised as part of efforts to strengthen the relationship between the police and local communities.
Focus on Security and Public Trust in Naxal-Affected Areas
Balaghat has long been affected by Maoist activities. In such areas, the police face challenges beyond security operations, including removing fear among villagers and building public confidence in the police force.
During Mishra’s tenure, emphasis was placed on intensifying anti-Naxal operations while also improving communication between police personnel and rural communities.
Action in the Double Money case, anti-drug campaigns and the ‘No Helmet-No Drive’ initiative launched in November 2025 were also among the initiatives associated with his tenure.
Informal Bond with Subordinate Personnel Drew Attention
Another aspect of Mishra’s personality that attracted attention was his informal and approachable behaviour towards police officers and personnel.
Videos of him dancing at police department events also circulated widely on social media. One such video, from a farewell ceremony held in June 2026 for Santosh Patel, then a DSP in the Hawk Force, showed Mishra dancing to the song ‘Fans Gayi Jal Machhli’.
Videos of him dancing with police officers and personnel to the song ‘Kajra Re’ during Holi celebrations were also appreciated by viewers.
These moments offered a different glimpse of the relationship between a senior police officer and his subordinate personnel.
‘Main Khaki Hoon’ Poem Reflected the Human Side of Policing
Mishra also made an impression through his poem titled ‘Main Khaki Hoon’, written in 2020. The poem expressed the duties, responsibilities and challenges associated with the police uniform.
The composition, which highlighted the human side of police service, also attracted attention.
Transfer Ends Tenure, but Memories Remain
Following his transfer, social media was flooded with emotional messages from Balaghat residents. While some described him as an outstanding police officer, others wrote that they might not see another SP like him.
These reactions reflect the personal connection that residents felt with the officer during his tenure. They also underline how an officer’s identity is shaped not only by the position held but also by work and conduct.
Aditya Mishra will now take charge as Superintendent of Police in Dewas. His tenure in Balaghat has ended, but memories and discussions about his work continue among residents.
