As part of the ongoing efforts to expedite rural housing under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), Acting Collector and CEO of Zila Panchayat, Mrs. Bharti Chandrakar, attended the Gramin Awas Pragati Sabha in Sitagaon and Karekatta villages of Manpur block on Wednesday.
During the visit, Mrs. Chandrakar encouraged housing beneficiaries to accelerate the pace of construction and assured timely resolution of their grievances. She informed that over the past week, such sabhas have been successfully conducted in 185 gram panchayats across the district. The primary objective is to address issues and delays faced by beneficiaries and to promote progress in house construction.

Mrs. Chandrakar reviewed the list of approved and ongoing housing units in the villages and held direct discussions with the beneficiaries regarding the challenges they were facing. A common concern raised by the villagers was the lack of skilled masons. In response, she announced that under a government-supported initiative, 25 local youth from each gram panchayat will be provided certified mason training. This step will not only address the skilled labor shortage but also generate employment at the local level.
The Acting Collector emphasized that beneficiaries who complete their houses on time will be publicly honored. During her field inspection, she visited the under-construction house of Mr. Manuram Korram in Karekatta and motivated him to complete the work swiftly.
The Gramin Awas Pragati Sabha is a structured effort by the district administration to provide beneficiaries with complete information about the scheme, offer technical assistance, and review construction progress. These meetings also ensure the presence of key stakeholders including sarpanchs, secretaries, employment assistants, panchayat patels, housing coordinators, and nodal officers from the district and block panchayats.

- Quality assurance and construction standards
- Technical support for construction
- Resolving grievances of beneficiaries
- Encouraging timely completion of housing units
In a separate visit, Mrs. Chandrakar inspected the under-construction Anganwadi Centre in the village of Halanjur. Expressing dissatisfaction over the slow progress, she directed that a showcause notice be issued to the concerned Project Officer, Technical Assistant, and Panchayat Secretary. She also instructed the contractor to resume and complete the construction without further delay.
These visits reflect the administration’s commitment to improving rural infrastructure and ensuring government schemes are effectively implemented at the grassroots level.
